Major Retailers Closing

Ah but was it a good quality mop?

JL tend to have a small choice and don't go for the lowest cost just (what they consider) better quality items.
I've always considered them expensive but with most shops, go for the offers and always look around and sometimes JL are pretty good. Very good atm with free delivery on their website.0 -
JL also appear to have a fair approach to sale items. I notice some things are marked special purchase to indicate their sale status come from the buying process, whereas stock genuinely reduced has some other description. I didn't buy from them so cannot comment anymore but it looked a very fair way to approach transparancy.0

I am hearing in other places that it is going terribly wrong for DSGi at the moment, so maybe they are getting ready to make the call to the administrators.
I doubt it, but I could see them closing down their less profitable stores, and the ones that haven't had a refit. So far their answer to the problem is forcing staff to bung more and more items onto a sale, push finance/mobile contracts more and so forth.0 -
I could see DSG saying they're selling/splitting off Currys from the group. Then it could have it's own debt, sink or swim on it's own strengths and weaknesses and when it collapsed it wouldn't interfere with the profit making PC World stores thus keeping DSG in the black.0

I work for DSG and get a reasonably heafty staff discount.
I just bought two new TV's for my house from where?
Ebuyer.
The same models were cheaper than I can buy even at a discount for Currys, and included free delivery.
None of the high street names you have seen go to the wall so far have been sucessful businesses. They were just keeping afloat by borrowing money to prop them up month on month, and selling just enough to pay what they needed to service debt.
They didn't keep up, adapt or change, so they failed (or will).0 -
I think stead & simpson shoes may go
I also think that Debenhams will probably go under. It will be a shame as they were useful, but I would never order online from them again after all the hassle I had during last year's sales. The sales assistants in the call centre are polite, but dont have a clue & give out wrong info.
Just hope they stay open long enough for me to return the two left handed gloves I received for my xmas pressie from OH.0 -
I think freespirit will close soon (surfy shops)
Was in a big city centre store today they had 4 staff & I was the only shopper in there
Also the other branch near is closing down this week!
Other than that I think BHS & Whsmith might beon shaky ground !!!!0 -
I think it unlikely that BHS will actually go under, as such - as they would be propped up by Mr Green - but I think they will have to close stores etc. If M & S are struggling, I can't see how BHS are fairing any betterI think freespirit will close soon (surfy shops)

WHSmith is an odd one - they posted reasonable figures in November and are moving away from CDs and DVDs where they can't compete. They are quoted as saying they are riding the storm due to their average transaction price being low - but you never can tell if it's just bluff[STRIKE]DFW Nerd number 729[/STRIKE]Debt Free & Proud0 -
Surf shops may survive down here because they serve a purpose - surfing. Surfing is popular all around the year now (mad b*****rs!). However, city ones are more expensive branded clothing than anything else. I see no reason for them to survive.
Debenhams website/online is rubbish for such a big company. It always used to go down in the sales and they kept promising to build a better one but lost my interest before they managed too. I would slightly miss them if they went : I buy Red Herring clothes for my daughter from there and the lovely traditional pyjamas by Jasper Conran for my son (the material suits his excema). I also look for party dresses when they are cheap. I certainly haven't helped keep them afloat over the years but I will be seen in any closing down sale (which is more than I can say for Woolies!).
I will probably turn to Next for even more, they have a fantastic website and range for the whole family and a proper online sale. I do get a lot from them, including furniture. Primark can be good for the odd thing too, but they do fall apart quite quickly! Daughter likes their PJ's. I can get 7 sets for her at Primark for the price of 1 for my son at Debenhams!0 -
I heard on the news that next havent met their sales, not sure what that means but hope it doesnt mean they will soon follow as i love their childrens clothes.Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0
