It's not a little bit of debt is it.
Do they really have that much in assets?

I'm really sad about wedgwood. That was a seriously historic company.

Me too, I buy from Waterford and Doulton and will be sad to see them go. I hope they find a buyer

M&S joblosses no wonder they tried to sneakily change the redundancy package http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/economics/article5455026.ece

Also Jonathon James - ultra cheap shoe shop recently opened in the expensive precinct near us. I don't see oaw they can cover their costs at the price they are selling at!

I read they had gone into administration?

I've gone for a further 6-10. I hope it isn't more, as tthere will be a lot of unemployment etc, which *may* lead to more crime as well, that is always another aspect. Although I would hope it is purely a minority.

I think I will now change my above understatement to 10+. I'd actually say probably at least another 30 retailers (not purely major retailers) now.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

The fashion chains Principles, Oasis, Karen Millen and Warehouse – all owned by parent company Mosaic – have called in an emergency restructuring team from financial administrators Deloitte.

I am hearing in other places that it is going terribly wrong for DSGi at the moment, so maybe they are getting ready to make the call to the administrators.
  • Looking at all the companies that have gone bust or are teetering on the edge, I can't help but think they are the self same companies who have not tried to adapt with the changing times and have become tired and surplus to requirements. We all lament the loss of Woolies etc, but how many of us actually shopped there on a regular basis. Adams is another, the clothes were often overpriced and badly fitting sizes inconsistant with other retailers as well. It is sad to hear of all these jobs go and I fear many more will go.

I dread hearing Debenhams have gone, but it will happen, look what happened to Allders. Big department stores like these have had their day unless they change. John Lewis realised this and offer excellent service and good prices, with the extra bonus of 5 yr warantees on their TVs etc...

At the end of 2009 those retailers still in business will be the ones who have moved with the times and give customers what they want at a price they want, with the service they want.. Debenhams, Currys, etc take heed.

Do you think? I went in there a couple of years ago to buy a mop. The cheapest was £17.
