I think you've forgetten about all the major supermarkets.
Supermarkets sell new release dvd's at such a new price and such because its not their major forte. Food is.
To HMV what is their major forte?? They can't be as competative as the supermarkets because they dont buy in the stock as cheaply as tesco etc.
Tesco/asda and the such buy in dvd's/games in less of a bulk as high street retailers too. Where as hmv/zavvi will/would buy in in excess of 100's or more, tesco stores etc, (not online) would prob only buy a min of 100 units.
Its like saying The Pound shop is Colemans competitor just beacuse they sell stationary.0 -
Oh and just as a small nugget of info, 1 new release dvd unit from wholesaler to retailer is prob around £10-12 and the reatiler sells is at approx £15... not much of a mark up.0

If that's the case it makes you wonder how much they lost when they were selling Mamma Mia for £7-£9.0

Sadly, bubbles, UK Governments of whatever political persuasion have a vested interest in, er, themselves.
So actually, competitiveness goes out the window when political self-interest rules OK: it's then not a question of what's best for the consumer or best for the country but what's best for the ruling political elite -- as in, if we allow this industry, in this UK region, to go down, how many votes are we gonna lose in the process?0 -

Whether she does or not you will find lots of people talking about the same chains if you are in a circle of acquaintances.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Exactly. Not much profit in that is there?
I was in my local Zavvi yesterday and just observing people, some can be down right rude.
Not in the instances where they are rude to the sale staff but rude to other customers. It frustrated the hell out of me and nearly said something but I was on my lunch break and in uniform so somebody may have recognised me.
I have lost a job in the same way and i just want to say anyone who is going thorugh the motions with whatever company, hold your head high and things will be ok. I found a job while in the one i was losing and was only out of a job for 2 weeks, cross over period.0 -

Focus have been in trouble for a long time, closing branches even when times were prosperous, so it isn't exactly new news about them.
Aren't Homebase owned by the Argos group? Surely if Homebase goes, so does Argos and I can't see that happening anytime soon. I can see Homebase being sold off, certainly.0 -
Focus went here a while ago, never very good. Wickes are there now not much better ??? Homebase did belong to Sainsburys, again never rated them either.... they could get away with being okay at one time, not now I wouldn't have thought.
B & Q have the D I Y game pretty much sewn up round here. I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -
OH and I were planning on getting a new bathroom in the sales and freezer for the kitchen. But now getting a bit worried if we place an order, the firm could be in administration a week later and no goods arrive. All this uncertainty and speculation about who could go under next isn't giving us confidence to spend at the moment!
