Travelodge Room Overbooking

They didn't arrive after check in time. They arrived after check-in had commenced. "Check-in is from 3pm"
I feel it is fairly shabby to overbook in this way, especially as in some cases people have been sent many miles from the tourist attraction/area they came to visit.
However in this case as you were given acceptable accomodation nearby, I would let the issue lie.
Check-in time is from 3pm ON YOUR DAY OF ARRIVAL and therefore ends at midnight.0 -
I have a Travel lodge booked tonight for guests and reading the stuff I got from them when I booked I assumed I needed to tell them that my guests would be booking in late. I phoned this morning and said my guests were expected to check in at some point around 10pm and just confirmed that all was in order and they said they would mark the booking that there is a late check in.
They never actually said I had to inform them, but they seemed to have a system where late book ins could be noted so that the room was not reallocated.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Check in is from 3pm on day of arrival. i.e. that is when it starts, a specified time on a specified date.
E.g. were I to say your rental car is booked from 3pm on Friday 19th December, it doesn't mean it ceases to be rented by midnight. It is booked for as long as your agreement allows. In the case of a hotel room, until check out time the following day, unless otherwise specified, which travelodge do not.
Anyway, this isn't even the reason they were turned away. They were turned away due to overbooking not arrival time.0 -

Nobbly, while I do agree in theory with your example and reasoning in your post above and also believe the policy of overbooking is a crap, I also think the OP needs to take some responsibility here.
Since the OP didn't inform the hotel that they were going to arrive late and ensure that the room was ready for them and that they didn't arrive on the arrival day then it would be a fair assumption by the hotel that they weren't turning up. And therefore it also a fair assumption that it could have been made available at midnight to the next person who walked through the doors.0 -
OP did you read the t&c's when you booked said room at travel lodge, if you didnt then theres no one else to blame except yourself0

If you want to check in early and check out late then yes, there's any extra charge mentioned in the terms however nothing about checking in at a later time.
Rubbish. I use Travelodges often for work and there's a 'late check in' box on the website for checking in after a certain time. (8pm i think)
You've not read the website properly!0 -
Everyone can discuss this `til they`re blue in the face but the T&C`s state their policy but the OP probably didn`t read them.0

The company seems to have done nothing wrong, and I agree the issue is with the overbooking not the arrival time (they're not claiming reduced liability because of that so it IS irrelevant, except to show why it was you not someone else who got bumped). If, as someone else has suggested, a complaint results in a free night somewhere it's well worth sending off a letter, but I wouldn't expect a refund or compensation or anything.
However, I am very interested to find out if they paid for you to get to the other hotel and back, because I don't think it would be fair to make you sort that out yourself...0 -

I suggest you go and complete some research before posting. You can specify early check in, late check out but nothing about late check in.
Now, I'll admit that I didn't read all the T&C's when booking however there is nothing to state I should notify them of a late check in. I agree that Travelodge have followed what is specified in their T&C's however, my original post was about whether anyone had been able to successfully claim against this policy which I personally think is a bit out of order and causes inconvenience when all you want to do is go to sleep! One of the posters has already suggested that I may get a free night for the inconvenience and that would be a bonus.
Thanks to those for posting their experiences and not flaming me stating I have to take full responsibility for it!0
