    Hi people.

    Hope everyone is well!

Ive spotted a job for a receptionist in a doctors. Now there is an application form and i should imagine i would have to put down my education, should i put down my degree? My CV has my A - levels, my HND and my Degree, but im worried that i might look a bit over the top? I have some pitmans qualifications which will obviously help but sadly theyre a bit out of date now as i did that during school but obviously still apply somewhat.

I cant believe how nervous/worried i am about this!! My poor comfort zone! I can so see why people never leave their jobs. It was a task gonig to to the doctors today, then to find out it was closed for training. Probably trying to see how many plebs would walk up to the door before they realised, well they got one person!

Anyway, just wanna hear your views!

Hey Vix, I would omit some details from your cv is you feel that you would be seen as over qualified.
Funnily enough I was looking at a job as a receptionist at a large surgery. Your not near me are you??? I'm in North Devon.

haha no, kent! It is rather large too, how funny! I shall probably omit the degree part then, it plays no significance i feel due to it being in business and tourism.

Although if i leave out the degree, what have i been doing the past three years? Didnt even think of that.

I dont wanna sound big headed though thinking that im over qualified for it because im thick in reality.
  • Hi Annie, thanks for asking :D Yes, I am okay - just pretty shattered - work is manic at the moment, I'm hoping it will calm down shortly. Getting in as much HHSS as poss.

Vix, I would think that a doctor's receptionist would need to be better qualified than other 'general' receptionists, so I'm not sure you should miss out your degree - it demonstrates a level of education and commitment.

  • Vix - this site gives more info on various entry levels for medical secretaries http://www.connexions-direct.com/jobs4u/index.cfm?pid=14&catalogueContentID=30&render=detailedArticle

    Skills and personal qualities

    A medical receptionist should:
    • have strong interpersonal and communication skills, both in person and on the telephone
    • be friendly and confident
    • have good organisational skills, and be able to prioritise their workload
    • be able to cope in a busy environment
    • be presentable
    • be flexible and adaptable
    • be able to use their initiative
    • be discreet and tactful
    • be patient and sympathetic
    • be courteous but firm
    • be able to work well on their own and in a team
    • be computer literate.
My guess is you have alot of the skills and personal qualities they would be looking for. Go for it.

Well - according to my mum a doctors receptionist is not so cracking as a doctors secutary as they are the ones who will liase more with the doctors in helping them with their jobs and you need to know some hardcore stuff.

    Now i have a 50/50 responce! poopies.
