yes lets all laugh at the guy who built a perfectly good house on his own land, anyone would think this was a free country and we wern't serfs for the government.
the past two recessions have been caused by housing booms and IMHO many of the social ills are caused by our moronic housing policy. Name another country where a council minion could reject £2billion investment in the local economy because it might displace some birds.
87% of this country is greenbelt and we are supposed to live tiny little expensive houses because of some hippy policy that does FAR more damage than solve different problems.0 -
This guy KNEW FULL WELL he was in breach of planning regs, he didn't even apply for permission he just went ahead and it, i.e. the law of this land does not apply to me.
Whilst I won't laugh at him for potentially being thousands out of pocket I won't feel any sympathy, being allowed to develop a building on green belt sets a precedence."An arrogant and self-righteous Guardian reading tvv@t".
!!!!!! is all that about?0 -
Having to tear it down teaches him a lesson...Apply for planning permission beforehand like the rest if the country has to!Squish0

the point is the guy had a perfectly reasonable desire to build a house on his land, he would have been denied permission out of the "you cant build on greenbelt" dogma so took a chance.
i always thought the definiton of a free country was not being preventing from doing something unless it does harm, what harm has building this place caused0 -

He's blighted the green belt.
hardly, how is it any worse than a !!!!!! coated barns, rusting tractors and "tempory" advertising signs which nobody seems to have a problem with in green belts.
i personally think a spec of grey in a panorama of green is worth avoiding the MANY problems our overly restrictive planning policy has caused.0 -
Well...I think the kitchen looks nice

This is only a few miles from me (used to live a mile away from it when all this kicked off). The case went against the farmer and he was ordered to demolish it. He immediately announced an appeal and it's all gone quiet..................
You are near me then, because I am near that:D0 -
Having lived in a part of Devon where development was highly restricted it is clear that it is worth a gamble building without PP. In the main it was extensions to existing buildings but retrospective permission was often obtained for works that would never have been allowed in a proper application. Some people with money seem to take little notice of rules.0

They could turn it into a Tudor Experience, in similar substance to that Lapland New Forest experience. Charge £30.00 a bob, and then you're done!0
