Broadband - cost cutting

Hi there, I was just wondering if say for example you took out a deal for broadband and it was £25 in a 12 month contract, but then after a couple of months notice it's ALOT cheaper, are you able to complain and get it for a reduced rate ?
Just wondering as we are with Telewest and I think that it is now £14.99 and we pay £25/month

Any info on how to reduce this cost would be appreciated.

unlucky! depends on your t&c. usualy, you HAVE to stick with the 12month contract or pay a cancelation fee, but seeing as you are staying with the same ISP, they might be able to pull a few strings for you. try to call customer services and see what they can do for you.
  • Been with ntl for a few years now and the same thing happened with me.Paying £17.99 a mth for broadband, but new customers could get it for £9.99.Phoned them to complain and told them to cancel it as I could get cheaper elsewhere.
He put me on hold for a few mins then came back & said would give me the same offer for 12 mths.
Its worth a try but check to see if you can get cheaper elsewhere first.

    Hope this helps.

Is it not the £14.99 for 2mb service the price for new customers only as in the nationwide adverts.

As I moved back last year and was treated as a new customer and I am being charged £14.99 for my Broadband connection. Not sure what speed but it is fast enough for me.

Other wise the 2mb connection is £17.99 a month.

Have you phoned them to see if they will downgrade you. Say your circumstances have changed and you can't afford the £25 a month but you can find £17.99 a month.

Edited to Add: I will be ringing them up in the next month to say that my contract runs out at the end of March and what are they going to do to keep me as a customer.

    Yours

  • Oh - I guess it's worth a try. Will get hubby to go over the T & C's too. Just annoying how they dont seem to value existing customers that well.

They will value you once your contract comes to an end! Most technology gets cheaper over time.
If you want it really cheap then share a wireless connection with a 8meg ISP between neighbours. You can get the set up for as cheap as £40 and extra aerials for £15. Then share a £14.99 service between 5 people at £3/month.
That's what i do. Well actually my neighbour doesn't know we're sharing!

I phoned telewest last week as we are on 10mb for £35, asked if they could do us a deal ! They are giving us £10 off a month for the next 6 months - no problem at all. Just finished with £10 a month off of our talkunlimited package too - all I did was ask for that too>

    Maybe this will help you.

We are currently on the £25 a month 1 meg broadband with telewes, soon to be upgraded to 4 meg.

Anyway i got fed up of paying £25 a month.

So last sunday i rang telewest and just blagged them over the cost that i was paying.

i told them that NTL had offered me the exact same deal but for £15 a month.

the guy on the phone told me that NTL had bought out telewest and it would be changing over in summer.

I complained about the amount that i was paying. when there were other servers out there who could offer me the same service that they were willing to offer me.

then to my surprise i was told that NTL would be offering me that telewest package the exact same one that i'm on now.

And if i rang back customer services the next day they would see what they could do for me.

After a small conservation with customer services they agreed to give me the 1meg that i'm on at the moment as we haven't been upgraded yet. For £15 a month. then when i'm upgraded i can't have the 4 meg which i'm not bothered about but i can have 2 meg for £15 a month.

    Now i'm happy with this.

It is worth just ringing them up and blagging them.

Tell them that your husband has lost your job and is on income support. And you can't afford it. You will be surprised at what you can get with this old trick.

    Hope that helps.

Are you sure that you aren't confusing the speeds that you are paying for?

Telewest have been increasing their speeds but not their costs lately, so for example when you first got your internet you could have been paying £25 a month for a 512kb download speed, but after the upgrades are paying the same price but for a 4mb download speed.

Now when you look at the 512kb connection, (currently being upgraded to 2mb) the price is £15 a month so it seems as if you are losing out, when infact you are paying for a better service and could downgrade to save money if you wanted.

    If that makes any sense.
