Royal Mail Christmas delivery & disappearing postmarks

There are a few items of post that I've been waiting a fair while for, some that I know were posted first class nearly a fortnight ago. Items are from different people in different locations.
Wondered if anyone else has noticed that both 1st and 2nd class seem to be taking absolutely ages this year? Trying to work out if it is the local distribution bit around here (in Derbyshire) or a nationwide problem.
Also, anyone else notice the postmarks become none existent or obscured at Xmas?
Current average seems to be about 5 working days for 1st, and about 7 for 2nd class.
Merry Christmas!

Post seems to be very QUICK this year.
I'm still getting stuff the day after it was posted even this week.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

The bills can come slower (next year)
, the cards and small packets can come sooner. Thats all I have to say on this matter
PS still waiting for me snow board wii game from Play. Its been shipped the other day so hoping it will come in time
Merry Christmas!:xmastree::xmassign::snow_grin:santa2::snow_laug:rudolf::xmassmile0 -
I agree with the above... it seems to me like RM are delivering cards/presents/purchases more quickly than bills. I paid my npower bill by cheque (do it quarterly as I share with 3 others) and they recently sent me a debt collection letter because they hadn't received my payment in the post! Luckily it was resolved and nothing came of it, but you can kind of see RM's logic here... who wants bills to be delivered at Christmas?!0

Good to hear some people are getting things in time then, maybe it is my area.
Also the things I am expecting aren't cards/gifts, so maybe they're travelling a bit more slowly.
Thanks for the comments.0 -

saw some figures the other day that RM had cut postie hours by 40,000,000 hours in 4 years
thats 19165 full time postie positions
RM's official 2005-2008 figures show full time staff reductions @ 19,304
the next round of 'office savings' should compound this
you cant make constant cuts and not get effects0 -
I know there was several planned 24 hour strikes by Postal Workers at the begining and middle of the month in a number of different branches around the country. Don't know if these went ahead or not, but could be the reason for late deliveries in your area.
Plus it is Christmas, so no doubt the posties are working doubly hard! I suppose a little bit of patience is required.0 -

several one day strikes?
i knew of one which has passed and affected one mail centre0 -
Is it your xmas cards that are being received later? If so, then it could be the red, green, silver envelopes...these cannot be scanned by Royal Mail sorting machines, so have to be hand-sorted which could be resulting in a delay! I now always avoid buying darker coloured envelopes with cards etc!0

I sent my Christmas cards out last Wednesday with 1st class stamps (boring white envelopes, clearly written addresses), and most seemed to arrive Monday, so a few days longer than expected.
Sent from Oxfordshire, to all over the place.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
