ps - I disagree with children having TVs in bedrooms!

Why, doesn't it fit in with your trendy views on modern parenting, formed by a bizzare mix of 1950's austerity and Supernanny?

I had a television in my bedroom from the age of 4 and it certainly didn't hurt me. But of course, I was brought up to enjoy things in moderation, rather than having everything banned on the grounds that 'it might be harmful'.

Same here, used sparingly, after homework and tea, to watch things my parents didn't want to, but all my friends were, and went of 1/2 hour before bed, when I'd read for a bit.
• Yes.

It's a dreadful shame when you hear parents boasting about how their children aren't allowed televisions in their rooms, as if it's some kind of achievement worthy of recognition.

Of course, the best parents are the ones that both allow televisions in bedrooms and also manage to have a healthy, balanced relationship with their children. Unfortunately, the ban-happy parenting 'Supernanny' syndrome is one reason why children in the United Kingdom are so desperately unhappy.

I think this is quite a loaded statement, so I should rush out to by televisions for both my children? How bizarre.

I have no intention of letting my children have TV's in their rooms, but I know that is the first thing that children's sleep clinics suggest when trying to encourage children to have better sleep. I know when I was a child, I had my own TV and given the freedom to watch whatever I wanted and I watched some stuff that even today would make my hair curl.
Oh....I'm not going to lie to you......At the end of the day, when alls said and done......do you know what I mean.........TIDY

GOING OFF-TOPIC

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: While it’s easy to wander off-topic that often prevents newbies finding the information they want quickly and easily (please see this rule). Please keep this thread on topic. If you’d like to discuss non-MoneySaving related topics please continue your discussion in The MoneySavers Arms or Discussion Time. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

And the topic here wasn't whether or not children should have TVs in their bedrooms. Plus we really should be setting an example to the children, today of all days, by being nice to each other.
