Don't suppose he is microchipped? Somewhere out there might be an owner who spent a lot of money and time trying to find their beloved dog... Imagine what a great christmas present it might be if you could re-unite them?

Awww.... I'd go out of my way to reunite him with his original owner. Especially as it's now Xmas.

At least if you found them and they said they'd moved on and didn't want it you could rid yourself of that piece of guilt.

I wonder if the owner still goes to that same park with any replacement she had.... long shot.

Can i speak from another point of view.

The original owners of the staffy could be totally beat up on loosing this little dog and thinking it was taken and used in dog fighting.

I know it is not really a regular occurance but it is always a thing that goes through your head when you have these types of dogs.

This feeling that your dog has been used for training a fighting dog is dreadfull especially made more so if your staffy that has been lost/stolen is a little softy.

I don't know what I would do in your situation but this is one thing to look at that by his previous owners knowing he has a loving home it may ease these feelings.

Staffy#s are a fantastic breed and don't deserve all the bad press they get.

Maybe an advert in a local paper asking if anyone had their dog stolen around 3 years ago in the park?
Don`t post the breed and ask replies to be sent to an email address that you set up specifically for the replies.
This way you can remain anonymous to all except anyone that you need to get in contact with. Hopefully the previous owner will see the ad and respond.
I would also vet the previous owner and if this person is found meet them in a public place without the dog. Although the dog was stolen he may be better off where he is now. Good luck with this, you are in a very difficult situation.

Oh my goodness. I don't have a dog (only a cat), but I can just imagine how awful it must have been for the owners to have their beloved pet stolen - I would never stop wondering where he had gone. They might have had children too - imagine how upset they would have been. If I were you I'd do anything in my power to reunite them.
If the dog's at your nan's - when your uncle's out, take it to a vets and have it microchip-scanned. Also you could put an ad and pic on the National Missing Pets Register.

I hate to point this out to you but... if the dog was stolen then your nan is currently handling stolen goods because in the eyes of the law dogs are property. Your uncle sounds like a lovely chap... not. Not only has he stolen someones wellcared for loved pet, he's threatening you and your nan if you try to do the right thing?? Charming!
Can you sneak the dog out and get it scanned to see if it's got any ID - if it doesn't then finding it's original owners could prove very difficult... if it does then maybe you could speak to your nan and come up with a story of the dog slipping its lead after getting scared on a walk etc? Maybe a near miss with a lorry could "scare it" and it could slip it's collar and run away?

I agree please try and find the original owners, perhaps put notices around the park where it was stolen?

From experience I know you could never forget about a pet that went missing, my cat went missing around 13 months ago now and I still wonder what happened to her every single day.

Id do as everyone above have said. You uncle stole someones pet???? Why????? I would be distraught and as cheepskate said above id be petrified mines was used in dog fighting too. Why not sneak him out, go to the vet and get him scanned, say to the police and ask if the dog was reported missing and say you will keep ahold of him if your allowed also put adverts on gumtree, in shop windows, in the paper and the vets, but not putting the colour or breed. Its a long shot but you'll feel much better just doing the above and know that you are trying to return this pet to its rightful owners.
