to be honest, if the dog has gone back to the ex and her kids who have become attached to the dog, and is well looked after.. i'd leave well alone.

It's been 3 years, the original owners probably accepted that he's dead a long time ago and moved on. they still probably miss him but may have replaced him or moved away. You could end up taking him from a loving home and sending him back to his original owners who just don't have room or time for him anymore. He could end up in a dogs home or even PTS.

If he's loved and cared for now there's no point trying to do the right thing in case it turns out to be the wrong thing.

Do you live locally to your nan? if so did nobody see any posters up around the time your uncle got him? 'lost dog - brindle staffy - reward for his return?' If he came from a loving home and was stolen from a park whilst being walked you'd expect to see posters on trees and lamp posts, in the paper etc.

Please do the right thing contact the RSPCA or failing that a local vet. Take the dog for ' a quick walk ' and get it scanned at the vet/rspca etc.
Imagine if someone nicked your dog. Imagine year after year wondering if it was still alive being well treated etc.
Imagine if you felt eaten up inside not knowing what had happened every time you thought of it. Imagine you are a little kid growing up worrying about your favourite playmate.

If you do nothing then you might as well have taken it yourself.
I know that sound harsh but pleeeeease do the right thing.
Tell the authorities.

sorry but the 'right thing' wouldn't be phoning the RSPCA.
Its a stolen dog, if they decide to take it and try and find the rightful owner it'll be stuck in a pound and then it'll get its death sentence..

Not true they won't put it down if they can't find it's rightful owner and the girlfriend or whoever wants it.
There would be a flipping outcry.

i've got a brindle staffy cross, i've had him 5 years and 11 months, I got him from the dogs home as he was found wandering round the streets of Salford.
He's my dog, not his previous owners, MINE!! and he always will be. If his previous owners or the police turned up demanding he was returned, the only way they could take him off me would be to peel him from my dead hands.
He's currently in his favourite position. Lying with me on the sofa with his head on my leg looking at me with his big brown eyes. Nobody is taking that away from me just because somebody owned him before i did.

its the RSPCA, do a bit of research on them and you'll find that animals are safer roaming the streets than with that mob.

Oh believe you me I'm not their greatest fan either.
BUT this dog was stolen and it's owners deserve to know what happened.
And the dogs trust is also an option.

You didn't steal him there is a big difference.

you're right i didn't but he did still have an owner before me.

As much as i would agree that the owners should have the right to know, i don't think it'd be in the best interest. They would have accepted he's missing and presumed dead and the kids who have him now would be devastated to lose him. If he doesn't fit into the old owners plans then who knows what would happen to him... i think the most important part is that he's happy, making a family happy and he's being looked after.
