all the advice on this thread has made such a difference to our family this year so thanks once again :T
I presume this is the result of a request to http://www.familyfundtrust.org.uk/ ?
I see from reading back you asked me a question which I failed to respond to. I'm spending a lot of time outdoors (sunbathing) at the moment so less time to read all the posts here. Another time if I don't reply just PM me.
    Vitamin D -15ml Liquid Micellised Vitasorb - BioCare[strike]£4.59 [/strike]£4.14
the advantage of this is that you just need a couple of drops to provide sufficient and it can be dropped into food or drink.
The 5000iu capsules from Biotec are very tiny and should it not be possible to persuade him to swallow them it would be quite easy to slide the capsule apart and put the white powder in some food or drink. As each mini capsule provides 5000iu one of these every other day or even one every 5 days would provide a very useful amount. When I ordered some recently they came very quickly and cost about £17, but half of this was P&P if you knew someone in USA who could order and airmail them to you in a jiffybag I'm sure you could cut the air mail delivery charge.

The reason for suggesting vitamin d is advantageous when taking omega 3 is because you are trying to enhance the amount of DHA in the brain. In the test tube we know that astrocyte brain cells absorb more DHA in the presence of vitamin d. It's to do with ion exchange but the vit d acts as a catalyst enabling more dha (omega 3 efa)to pass through the astrocyte cell walls. There are vitamin d receptors on a vast number, (it's easier to list those that don't have vit d receptors) of human cells and they must be there for a purpose. We know also that depression is seasonal for many and that it is linked in many cases to low DHA levels. As most people get their DHA from fish and Sardines aren't exactly seasonal in tins the fact that DHA is taken up better in the presence of vitamin d and clearly Vitamin d levels definitely are seasonal, explains why DHA availablilty becomes seasonal. One of the problems with research is that it is less common for two factors to be researched together. There are plenty of research for omega 3 and plenty for vitamin d but very few look at the combined effect of them working together synergisticaly.

Vitamin D: Requirements for Optimal Health This is a brief summary of the reasons for taking more vitamin d.

    Hi,

I am a community support worker for adults with AS, and I have had some success in obtaining a diagnosis for clients with AS from "reluctant" GP's. The general approach I have taken is to get the person inolved to request a mental health assesment, based purely on symptoms and then at the assesment they mention AS and say that having looked on the net etc., etc., they thought AS was a possibility. This quite often leads to an expert doing as assesment and a diagnosis. (Remember that a large number of adult AS sufferers have been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder in the past, as depression is often linked with undiagnosed AS)

Once a diagnosis has been obtained it is not so hard to get support and funding, and if specialist support is not available in your area direct payments may be an option.

The charity I work for is based in the south west (mainly Dorset and Somerset, but a small part of Devon). I can give a few details to anyone in this are if you PM me.

I hope this might help someone

    Nicky
