Gatso Speed Cameras - Can they Get you on Other Side of the Road??

I know, before you tell me to slow down, I Know and I will....
This weekend I have driven on the same stretch of road quite a lot where I
live and there are a set of speed cameras which have been in place for approx 2 years now. I always take care around these cameras and all cameras where I know they are based and as I say adjust my speed accordingly. I also think I know which cameras take a picture from behind (the Gatso, as you pass the camera) and which get you as you approach them (the Truvelo).
Now these cameras that I live near are both Gatso's, presumably can only take a photo (Flash) of you passing it and on the same side of the road as the camera.
This weekend though I have a potential 6 points coming my way as these cameras flashed as I approached them, but on both occassions I was on the other side of the road. There was no other traffic about so it must have been me who set them off, and I was doing approx 38-41mph in a 30mph zone. So it must have been me that set them off. Yes, as I say speeding is speeding!! and I should slow down.
Anyway after me jabbering on and not getting to the point. Is this possible with Gatso cameras?? Or can they only get you on the side of the road the camera is on?
Also I heard that the UK Gatso cameras are not yet Authorised to take photos of both sides of the road YET?, but in other countries they are.
Please advise, so I can sleep tonight.
thanks!!

Gatso cameras can sometimes go off (wrongly) due to reflected images from traffic in the opposite direction.
However, you can relax, they would have to have taken two photos of your car passing the gridlines on the same side of the road as the camera, which they obviously couldn't have in this case.
The chances of you getting any points for this are zilch.

Thanks for that, must be very sensitive cameras, but I did assume something
was not right as the Gatso camera is meant to catch you going passed it and
on its side of the road.
If it was a Truvelo then I would be worried, but then I guess it would still need to be on my side of the road.

Hiya All
Friday night I went passed a Gatso speed camera, it was on the right side line facing towards me but i was in the left lane.... As i drove past it flashed 2 times... I was about 8mph over the speed limit... There were no road markings in both lanes.... I was the only one on the road at the time. I know that it flashed because the road was in pitch black. Can the camera get me from the other side of the road?!...
Thanks guys...0 -

Before photo evidence can be submitted in court, the police have to demonstrate that the speed they calculated you were travelling at is accurate. they do this by measuring the distance you travel between the time of the two photos and the painted lines on the road are a critical part of that evidence as without them, they can't prove the distance they claim you had travelled in the second between the flashes.
So if, as you say, there were no lines on the road, then their evidence is incomplete. BUT if there were lines on one lane and not the other on a dual carriageway, then the chances are they do have sufficient evidence.
The stretch of road beside a speed camera where I live was recently re-surfaced and it took over a month before the lines were repainted for the camera. During that time, the camera would still have flashed anyone speeding, but the photo's wouldn't provide enough evidence to prosecute!0
