Why not start with something easy like an Hansel and Gretal Cottage. Start saving sweet wrappers, coloured foil etc and use your imagination. The size of the box will depend on how many gifts are to go in/ number of people. Half the fun was guessing what it would be, it was rarely kept after the event.

Crepe paper is great for making a giant cracker. Again make it as large as you want.

You can buy any colour stacking boxes and should just be able to paint them with a couple of coats of white acrylic.
Not the same I know as I remember ours had some sort of white batting round it but it was the only things I could think of.
