I locked myself out of my house

I lost my house keys last year, goodness knows where they went. Just had two rings on the key ring, that was it. Got home, couldn't get in, spare in house, silly me. £35 to get a locksmith out and £20 for a new lock (friend of friend did that, so cheaper than if I called out someone). Sickening thing was, guess what was in the mail, key fobs from Halifax Insurance offering rewards if your keys get lost...:wall:“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. I would change the lock, to one that can only be locked by a key, that way you cant close the door and it lock behind you, like a yale lock does!!!

Don't use a push button lock, they are only for privacy not security. They are designed to let someone know they should not open a door unless they have permission. A thief already knows this.
The best suggestions I can think of have already been posted, but the cost and inconvenience of calling out a locksmith is minute to the cost and inconvenience of a burglary. Whatever you do, also consider how you would get out of a locked house in the dark if it was on fire.

When I was locked out of the house I broke back in. Total cost £0. I'm not going to give a masterclass in burgulary, but suffice to say that I'd never broken in before, but I found it very easy, it just took some peserverance. Conclusion: even window locks are rubbish unless they are done up tight.Happy chappy0

I keep a back door key in my car and both my side gates are locked. I keep those keys on my car keys.

Hello Every Body,
Thanks for all of your suggestions, I must own up, I know this is an excellent web site, but it is not designed for advertising products. However, when your a small company owner, all marketing is good.
I see that we are educating people that there are many ways to store a spare key.
Our company supplies a small safe which allows easy secure storage of keys.
I would like to thank Lorian who has busted me twice now.0 -

you go to the trouble of helping people, only to discover they are trying to sell you the item you are recommending they buy
