if the rescue CD does not work then this is for antivirus pro 2009 , but it's more or less the same infection
Guide to How to remove Antivirus pro 2009

you will need access to a Clean PC to do the downloads and burn them to a CD or put them on a USB drive so that you can copy to the infected PCEx forum ambassador

that's a really good idea actually - i hadn't heard of BartPE before but I would have thought that any linux distro would mount the hard drive and allow you to get your data back.0 -
I've found The Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (http://www.ubcd4win.com/) useful for situations like this. It's based on BartPE, and I'm not sure exactly what it adds over just using BartPE, but it allows you to run antivirus/antimalware software on the infected hard disk, which may be enough to rescue the installation of Windows on the laptop without needing to wipe it all and start again.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

It's funny you should mention thisI've found The Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (http://www.ubcd4win.com/) useful for situations like this.

You have my sympathy, I too had this and after trying lots of spyware removal apps I found this one did the trick. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, or MBAM, from the following location and save it to your desktop:
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Download Link
Mine would go into safe mode though so I was able to run it. Hanging is too good for virus writers.0 -
Many thanks for all the replies. I did manage to run a few things in normal mode by using cntrl alt delete (Windows Task Manager) and then File (New Task) browse and run: but could only get hijack this and ccleaner to run this way. I also got AVG to scan and then stopped when it found something (as it would freeze before it finished a complete scan).
AVG found and quarantined something called gadcom.exe and also the ones found earlier: winloggn.exe and SHeur2.GAS / SHeur 2.GAS ?? (Trojan Horse)
Will try the suggestions above, but here is the Hijack This log:

you are running AVG 7 , no wonder it beat it , the newest version is 8 !!
find the Malwarebytes folder and rename MBAM.exe to something else and run itEx forum ambassador
Long term forum member0 -
Doesnt help that your only using version 7.5 either as its without spyware protection
anyways ~
run HIJACK again and FIX the following
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [prunnet] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\prunnet.exe"
ALL of the TRUSTED ZONE ones

Reboot and see how things are
Run another HIJACK log so we can see what difference (if any) its made:idea:0 -
