Novelty coaster has damaged our table!

  • My novelty XXX doesn't work like that real XXXXX.

I didn't buy it. I have no contract with anyone to enforce. I can't enforce "fit for purpose" as it was a gift. I don't know who made it. I don't know if its genuine. I don't know if the damaging gunk was on it before I put it on the table. I don't know if I can find my own ar$3 with both hands.

What I do know is I want money from someone because of all the things I don't know. I just need help pinning down the sucker who's going to pay.

    Is that a fair summary?

No, it's wrong on pretty much every count. Like most of the other muppet troll answers.

Ooh I like that idea - with a muppet troll post count like the thanks one - so all can see how much of an @rseh*le these folk are - great idea.

just a thought , and I have done this some and might start doing it more or even all the time, why doesn't everyone just put all the trolls on ignore - then these cretins can post till their hearts are content and the rest of us can ignore them and just talk to each other :D
Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
    Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying

    Yeah muppet troll post count!

UKtim's info would've gone like this.............

    Post Count: 3
    Muppet Post Count: 3,476
Thanked 0 Times in 3,479 Posts
Mocked 3,479 Times in 3,479 Posts

Trouble with putting them on ignore is that poor newbies get harassed when they come here with a problem and there's no one who knows the score to point out that it is just muppet trolls doing their muppety thing.

...or put a coaster over the gunky coaster mark.... or paint the table with white gloss.

Grrr! O/H got a Simpsons themed mug / keyring / coaster set for Secret Santa. He left the coaster on the table with the mug on it (as you might). The coaster's made out of some nasty plasticky rubber stuff.

On tidying up, I tried to pick up the coaster and it was stuck to the table - having gingerly peeled it off, I found a sticky residue. Cleaned the residue off, and... it's eaten into the varnish of the table!

I've checked the packaging and all I have to go on (other than the obvious Fox connection) is the website and address of the distributor.

If I write to them, how can I reasonably expect them to respond? The table's less than a year old, by the way, and WAS pristine...

Go with Vivatifosi's idea of getting a quote from a French polisher to see how much it will cost to get the table back to how it was, then send some photos to the address of the distributor (Downpace Ltd in London?), along with the quote (send recorded delivery) to see what they say.

If it didn't say that the coaster was not suitable for hot drinks, then they should pay for the cost of putting the damage right!

Chances are, as it was a secret Santa, then this may have been bought from a market stall, so probably manufactured in China and not licensed. There's lots of fake Simpsons stuff out there!

Edit: If they're anything like the ones on Amazon (here) then it says they're heat resistant...
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
