Diet pills are not easy and are a last resort. I had tried everything before going to the doctor to get them. I know how you feel after having a child and putting on weight ( I put on 3 stone) but dont take it too hard, it will take time to come of again.
  • Hi there

I was given Orlistat by my GP which does not allow the absorption of fat and you pass it out in the loo. I got the tablets then decided I didnt want them.
For it to work you need to consume less than 10g of fat per meal then you take the tablet or it might be before I cant remember.

By pure chance I came across the Cambridge Diet last year, someone I knew had done it and it seemed quite easy. At about £37 a week not cheap though. Anyway I gave it a go and lost 4 stone in a couple of months, I sold all my big clothes on ebay as I shrank out of them to put towards the cost of the diet. Unfortunately I couldnt afford it and so gave up and didnt really stick to any diet and put 2 stone on with Christmas and everything

I gave myself a hefty kick up the rear come NY and promised myself to get myself to goal by April this year, so that was a total of 4 stone (gulp) as I originally planned to lose 6 stone.

I have lost just under a stone since the first week of Jan, its not easy to watch everyone else eating but the results are worth it to be honest, I cant really afford it with a family but the way I look at it I would only spend the money on junky food and the quicker it comes off the sooner I finish the diet so its a good incentive to stick to it, I have 3 stone more to shed and I am confident that i will do it, even if I cant afford to stay on the diet for the whole lot I might switch to WW or SW for the final stone.

    K xx

Slick chic I know how you feel, I gained LOADS of weight during and after having my DD, only thing is I didn't nip it in the bud and got super fat.

Your doctor would only give you Xenical if your BMI was quite high, so If it's still in the 20's I doubt you'd get them, and sometimes Doctors can be a bit funny about them. The first I asked refused point blank to give me them even though my BMI was well over 40!

I've got 4lbs more to loose and then I'm in the "OVERWEIGHT" range, rather than the obese. Can't wait! haha.

If you only have a stone or two too loose then really I think just a bit of exercise and a healthy diet will help shift it, and you'd deffo manage to loose a bit by March!

  • Hi All,

I contacted boots to see if they sell them, which they stated they do. 1 months supply at £52, however I need to make an appotinment with the parmisist person to discuss a weight controlled programme which is where the Orlistat, gym and healthy eating cmoes into play.

Could I get these from my doctors? and if so would they cost more/less?

    Thanks.

sorry to gatecrash your thread but have you tried ringing the map nurses?
MAP is the helpline run by Roche, the makers of Orlistat, it's manned by very helpful nurses. They send you really good information and give you a call now and again to see how you're doing.

You call them to register, from what I remember, the website doesnt work that well.
You'll need your box of Orlistat tablets to hand, as they ask you the serial number.

    The phone number is:

    0800 7317138
also http://experience.patient.co.uk/discussion_list.php?d=281 is a good website.
i have have lost a stone straight away on these last year.
