Next jeans are the only ones I can wear! I agree, the hips are small in comparison to the waist, which suits me as I am straight up and down. Most trousers, if they fit on the waist, are way too big on the hips for me.
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

  • M&S announced to great fanfare, several years ago, that they had unertaken a size survey of several thousand british women and altered the cut of their clothing accordingly.

Huzzah, said I, and legged it down to her local branch to look for some smart work trousers. I then discover that I am probably a very odd shape compared with several thousand british women surveyed, as their trousers now gape like comedy clown's outfits around the hips while the waistband resides just under the bra.

Bah humbug says I. Maybe I should get J-Lo style buttock implants to balance out my top and bottom halves.

As people get fatter, I've found it harder to get trousers to fit as I have a 30" waist.

Wonder when the charity shops will go bust as their goods are becoming more expensive than retail shops.

The big charity shop chains will find it difficult to sustain their business model, IMO. They rely on good quality donations sold at quite high prices - whereas as the downturn continues, people will have less money to spend and fewer goods will be donated.

What are more likely to thrive are the old style, 'jumble sale' charity shops for local charities, with heaps of cheap stuff run by volunteers. These will be helped by falling High St rents and more vacant shops, and possibly even more volunteers as more people become unemployed. In the last recession, there were a lot of temporary charity shops like this in high streets.

The only good thing about M&S afaic is that they're now in most motorway service areas so you can now get a good quality sarnie, 500ml drink, packet of crisps and a flapjack or something for a fiver with change. At normal MSA prices you'd need the best part of £15.

So M&S get a thumbs up from me although I don't use them for anything else; I get my groceries from Morrisons as I really like their stuff :o .

  • I could never understand that shop.

I havent seen so many sales adverts on the tv lately come to think of it.

I think I saw them advertising that a new sofa is an excellent Christmas present back in November.

A sofa is a luxury buy and if people aren't buying new houses they won't be buying new sofas as well.
