My uni runs a program called SAS (Student Affairs Service) which gets you class room experience. Think he said you get paid, but I'm looking into doing that as Cumbria say it is better for your application if you have some experience of having been in lessons watching and helping out. But thanks for the tip I'll check the GPT out.

Just one question if anyone knows, was considering primary/junior education as a back up to the history one. Is that any easier to get into a job or is it harder? Heard contradicting things on that one...

I think it is considerably harder to get onto the PGCE,our local College takes 917 Secondary trainees and 67 Primary. Males are in demand for primary though,as it is a female dominated area. That said, there are few male infant teachers(in my experience)so you are reducing your job opportunities to the Junior age range. Curent climate,my advice would be Secondary has more openings.

That's good to know, probably will apply for the PCGE. Did also consider primary/junior teaching but I heard off someone at college that it was harder to get into that level of education. But thanks, guy never mentioned to me that you could teach in FE with a PGCE.

It can be more competitive to get into primary teaching but there is a great shortage of men at this levelso although there's no actual positive discrimation, male applicants are very much encouraged.

I've also known many primary schools with an almost totally female staffroom but with a male head. As a feminist, I disapprove but it's worth pointing out.

There is bias in many an interview process dependent on the make upof a particular staff. We have positively looked for male applicants at the school where I am a Governor, to redress the male /female balance and to provide male role models for kids who may not otherwise have them.

I think that's very general in primary schools these days, isn't it?

It is naughty like, but anyone would do it. Walk away a week later perhaps?

    Not anyone actually! I didn't!
