Bursary and Grants yes pay it back straight away. Loans they may take back if you only turn up for 1 day and then leave. If you wait a few weeks then leave then I doubt it.

But you will still owe the money. So when you earn over £15,000 you will pay it back accordingly or whatever.
  • Dont think they will let you keep the bursary, not sure about the loan.

  • i done this two years ago, and never heard anything about having to pay back.
I left during the christmas hols, and got my jan loan and bursary through.
    then nothing after that

There have been recent threads on this issue in relation to people who left course due to ill health. If you do not tell the Student Loans Company where you are moving to when you leave college, they may take a while to catch up with you. However they take a dim view of people who continue to accept money knowing they are leaving a course - they can and will ask for all of the money obtained by deception in one hit. You already know they have the ability to make a charge from your wages, why risk it?

  • That money is there to help you study and live at university not quit and blow it on something else. If you're leaving university you must inform the SLC immediately so they can stop your payments. If they find out you've willingly taken money meant for being a student, when you no longer are one then you face them asking for it all back at once.

I expect I am going to get flamed for this, but I really can't help myself,..... if both the posters above were thinking of teaching then some kids have had a lucky escape.
    "Am I aloud"
    "I done this "

Neither are typos either before someone moots that as a defence.
