You'd think Felixstowe docks employed more people than the biggest employer in the country, the NHS, given the prominence of this thread. It'd hardly be the end of the world if the docks closed, would it?

    Mate, it would be catastrophic;)

They'd have to start a new thread called "Felixstowe Docks to Close"

It would be for those in and around this area....it has to be remembered that the dock company is just one part of it (in fact, a fairly small number of people compared to the outside businesses), it that went, so would all the associated businesses around here putting thousands upon thousands out of work.

It would actually be a major loss.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

The effect will be felt very soon for several familes, due to the dock closing some of the canteens and reducing opening hours on the only one left, only 12 out of the current 36 will have jobs.

Heard from union today that the company running the canteens might now pull out as it will no longer be viable as a business.
Hope someone puts a Mac D franchise or a Kebab shop in.

How does this fit in with Pickles (ie. you) theory of increasing volumes? More work, but people less hungry?
