there was a piece on the BBC Look East program tonight that said that Felixstowe Docks was now suffering a 20% slump in container traffic and that they are starting to lay people off (I think it said 200 jobs went this week)
The story isn't on their website yet (still only got yesterday's program up there) but this is where it will be when they do update it) http://www.bbc.co.uk/lookeast/latest_stories/0 -
I watched it earlier.

Now what could Pickles have meant a few pages back when he said volumes were increasing? Perhaps it was an honest mistake.
You see - if he had just said "things are a bit tough" back on page 3 none of the rest of this thread would have happened. But the combined might of MSE and it would seem finally the media are not enough to persuade him that volumes might be down rather than up.
Gotta hand it to him.0 -
If anyone's interested in what pickles and the other white hats have been supervising lately look at this

If you do work at the Port you would know that it is The RTG Driver that moves the boxes without any supervision and that at the moment I am a Quayside Supervisor.
You should be more pleased that the RTG Driver was not hurt in the ACCIDENT.0 -
It gets everyone in the end.

So far there have been only voluntary redundencies, the people that were involved in the restructure are on their three month garden leave and as such have still not left the business.0 -
I have spoken with several dockers who have taken voluntary, all of them long termers.
They have been more than happy to help the company out during it's time of need.
In fact they are better off financially than if they had seen their years out.0 -
Yep many were going to retire this year anyway so they are laughing all the way to the bank.0
