Felixstowe Docks in trouble?

Quote from local rag, Fungus link above, is this...
"Imports through Felixstowe, Britain's biggest container port, are down 16 to 20 per cent, and some haulage firms have gone bust."
There must be a reason for the discrepancy in the two opinions I guess but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe Pickles is a floater after all?
I'm beginning to wonder if Pickles is Gordon Brown...Fokking Fokk!0 -
Don't be too hasty FF. I am sure there is an explanation. As Paul Davey said several hundred posts ago people will buy larger electronic goods in a recession, exchanging iPods for CD players for example. So maybe the new type of goods coming in will not fit on your average sized lorry. Of course the papers won't know, but Pickles will have the word on this development.
Speaking of pickles, whatever happened to that Felixstowe Docker character who liked a bit up a tradesmans?0 -

If you take all the figures being quoted they are from Jan to March, undeniably the quietest period ever experienced, but from April to date volumes have increased greatly not port wide but certainly in Felixstowe so much so that certain periods overtime has to be deployed to which our onion friend is taking advantage of. Haulage companies have always gone bust even in the most lucrative of times, so having just gone through our worst period of all time it was likely but unfortunate some were not going to survive.0 -

There's another one in there about how they've closed one half of the dock which is the same as the first post in this thread. Something about an economic downturn though Pickles swore on his grannies nick-nacks it was because they had the decorator's in or soemthing:T
Also as you know the major shipping lines are running deeper and deeper drafted vessels which mean that Landguard cannot service them.0 -
