Why can't you just be thankful that you have got an excellant job? When thousands of people around the country have not and you have a superb contract and pension sick pay etc etc why do you still moan?

To have done that you would have had to do several 16 hour shifts in a week. No quality of life for your wife but then again she might have been quite happy to see the back of you.:rotfl:

Shall we go over some more of your excellant contract?
    2/3rds final salary pension.
Paid 39 weeks sick rolling around a 3 year period.
    Discounts at several businesses.
OHC to care for your well being.
    Excellant canteen food.
Oh not forgeting the gym and physio department (free for all employee's).
I seem to notice that you should be using the gym otherwise on your next holiday dont lay on the beach incase the whale hunters are in the area.:rotfl:

It's amazing we work at the same place really, because if you went to the gym you would also know that it's not free :p

Oh yes it is, when you hit a certain weight limit. That is why I thought it would be free for you.;)

The problem is not confined to the docks but affects all the businesses dependent on it. I suspect that the area will be changed beyond recognition by what is happening - shops are closing, recruitment is non-existent, haulage and import/export companies large and small are reducing their workforces either by getting rid of their temps and introducing a recruitment and overtime ban or by making redundancies.

I think it is happening relatively quickly because import/export is an early indicator in a recession so what we are seeing happening at Felixstowe docks will ripple out over the country as a whole and may even give an indication of how hard and deep this recession is going to be. If it is any help, a friend who owns one of the affected businesses, well established over many years, is terrified and has never seen anything like it. Anyone who isn't scared at the moment cannot really understand the full extent of the problem imho.

What went wrong with your scare mongering post then?
The Port is moving record volumes through Rail, it is attracting new business and winning work from its major competitors. (Antwerp & Southampton).
Overtime has been back for the last few weeks in all sections and volume is on a steady increase.
Confidence is starting to grow in the local community with houses being sold and some being snapped up as soon as they get posted. (This is not me saying this but I was told this by a tug driver last night who is desperate to get on the housing ladder.
You stated as well that several local business's were going to wall, yet we have not seen the impending doom that you were posting.
It has been tough on individuals but everyone is starting to feel good again.

I suggest you check the following:
Property Bee for Felixstowe (drops of 20-25% the norm)
Insolvency Register for business and personal insolvencies in the area (a 70% increase over the past year)
The calender - it is June, the best time of year for virtually everything; rock bottom had been reached there was no where to go but up.

Let's all have another look at it in November shall we?

What is your other Sockie name then VT? Nowhere to be found but one post and you respond straight away?
However, you still do not answer the questions and try and spin your way out of trouble.
These companies that you said were walking dead and the fear you tried to install in dockers wifes was outragous and full of lies.
Answer the questions otherwise you will be shown up for what you are, a bitter and twisted scare mongerer.

I can almost hear the snarl of fear behind your post! OK, I will answer you this one last time Pickles, more out of amusement than anything, and then I must get on with my work:

There is a little-known function on this board called "Not logging in" that some of us like to use when not posting, you should try it.

There are none so stupid as they who will not inform themselves; you operate in a world of half-baked anecdote and wishful thinking, one docker wanting to get "on the ladder" does not constitute a housing recovery. I have repeatedly given you the means to inform yourself yet you repeatedly refuse to do so QED you wish to remain in denial and I am wasting my time.

Perhaps when you miss your bonuses this year, or if you manage to get your unspeakably ugly house on the market, reality may take hold but whilst you persist in manufacturing meaningless data to keep your own fear at bay there is no point in entering into a dialogue with you.
