  • Sue, sorry just realised I didn't include YOU in the genuine Felixstowe posters, I thought it went without saying!

No you got that wrong she's Pickles on anti depressants.

Yep! The problem the others had was that Hapag Lloyd and another line (can't remember the name) went bang, so there were loads from those companies on the look out for jobs.

We picked up a fair few of the Hapag Lloyd refugees and a couple from the old company I worked at...it was my job to train the newbies!

Those newbies later became my bosses when I returned to shipping after my 3rd child was born...most frustrating, I had taught them to check for correctly endorsed bills of lading, difference between LCL and a full container load, various customs clearance docs and most importantly...customer services to adhere to BS5750 (god that was mind numbing training).

I think that was why my experience was so attractive, I had worked in various different parts of the shipping process so could take on a wider role in the import department.

I remember Hapag Lloyd, wondered what happened to them! Sue, why are you finding it so hard to find work? I would have thought there would have to be something for you with the amount of experience you obviously have.

Would a choice be on offer do you think Mewbie? Would it more likely to be a management decision to say who goes as opposed to individuals having the choice.
I would hope that the first phase / wave of restructuring / redundancies would include voluntary redundancies. And that is the decision I was describing - a workers decision as to take the money and run, with the possibility of there still being some other work out there OR to hang on. The possibility being that hanging on still results in a redundancy, but with even fewer outside jobs available at that later time.

tbh - the whole thing is bad, and it sounds like the Port management are doing the same as any other management, and that is making it worse and more frightening for its employees.

    Jetski!

Me and pickles are at completely opposites of the financial spectrum....and err...our bodily attributes are fairly different too, I am missing a part but have two extra parts on top, he has the two extra parts and the bit I am missing in the area of the tops of his legs. :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Don't need anti-depressants, just put Pickles on ignore - I've finally found the way to low blood-pressure posting!

Unfortunately, I have two disabled children (plus a normal one) which makes finding childcare in the school holidays nigh on impossible (well actually impossible so far) which means I cannot take up a job being held on a promise from my old company and am forced into finding something which fits in with school term times and care duties for the children.

I loved shipping work although it was never my intention to end up there, I vowed I would never work in that business, that resolve lasted all of less than a year! Mind you, it wasn't until I started working at a shipping line that I found my working home and really started to love it....I didn't really enjoy working for forwarding companies, not really my scene.

So, I am forced into something different for the moment....and I am having no luck at all in getting a job!
