  • Then they have lied to every member of staff who had to attend this meeting today, I will have to ask HR in the morning.

Um, knowing what you know, and if you were me - what would you be stockpiling? Really wanting to know. Doesn't nearly everything imported come through Felixstowe? I already have one crate of rice, about 9 months' worth of coffee beans, quite a bit of tinned food.
    YouGov: £50 and £50 and £5 Amazon voucher received;
PPI successfully reclaimed: £7,575.32 (Lloyds TSB plc); £3,803.52 (Egg card); £3,109.88 (Egg loans)
  • Touche Jetski, he really is nothing more than a tea-boy with delusions of grandeur.

Don't be horrible at this time - we may all be in shock, come Monday.

I asked the docks question repeatedly months ago. It seemed obvious to me, outside the industry, that it must be affected. But you said apparently not, and that you knew it would be all OK. Very misleading, when we are all trying to make plans based on what the future might hold. I don't mind so much if you know nothing, or see nothing - but you lead me, and others, to believe that all was well.

Why does this matter? Because IMO the docks / port are a leading indicator of tough times approaching and it would nice to have some truthful representation. I honestly want to know what the future holds, not some spin or half truths.

Mewbie the signs are already there..for those of us in the area anyway.

Hauliers and forwarders going bust, shops closing etc....the port company and its workers survived last time but the biggest casualties was in the outside companies, we even saw big shipping lines go to the wall.

My guess on what will happen is that there will be some refining in numbers of employed by the main dock operator but as with the last recession, the real pain will be felt by those who work for shipping associated companies in and around the dock, such as shipping lines, forwarders, hauliers.

The port itself should survive though, if it doesn't then we are well and truly beggered!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
  • I give up - nothing on the BBC web site (Suffolk), Felixstowe TV, EDP - most recent reports are about freezing fog and the cranes, and the find of counterfeit goods.

Sorry BJ but I have taken a great deal of provocation over this.

If you remember, at the start of this thread, I was saying that there would be redundancies at the dock whilst the TeaBoy said categorically not. For the rest of the thread I have been called a liar and a fantasist while he argued that nothing but good news would come from the docks. Good news? I have watched my friends with businesses locally having to lay off staff as they struggle to keep their heads above water; I have seen more than one in tears about letting people go - this is not just about the port itself.

Now we hear there are redundancies amongst the dockers; TeaBoy clearly does NOT know who or how many or even where, he himself may be one of them. I am sympathetic to those losing their jobs but I am NOT sympathetic to that liar and fantasist who has denied from the start that there was a problem in the face of plenty of evidence to the contrary and claimed that he knew the full inside story when he clearly has no idea.

I have little time for liars who try to boost their limited self-esteem by trying to appear more important than they are; he has no place in this, it is bigger than the docks where he is just a very small fish in a very big aquarium. This whole area is dependent on the docks, not just the dockworkers - people deserve to know the truth and they sure as hell are not going to get it from the TeaBoy.

My son-in-law is a car salesman in a Nissan dealership and he's in a similar kind of denial. My daughter just says "His job is completely safe". Yeah, right!

I'm sorry but that's not true, Pickles is fully aware of the people at risk and at the moment he is not one of them.

    And we know that because...?
  • I have just stumbled onto this thread whilst looking for the statement from the company we were promised in this mornings meeting. I was also in the room when around 50 operational staff were read a statement from a senior manager. Due to the shift pattern worked at Felixstowe we were the last group of staff to be informed officially, the first were told on Tuesday. Not all those placed 'at risk' were there, as many are day workers and therefore no questions were answered in that forum.

We were promised a statement would be released, but as there are other ports within the group affected within the UK, this would be coming from HPH.

As pickles has said, those directly affected at this time will be given further details on Monday. By the way, I know pickles all too well and he is not the tea-boy, but who knows where he will end up after the restructure!!!
