  • And we know that because...?
because I posted it and I'm aware of roughly what's going on myself.

I have just stumbled onto this thread whilst looking for the statement from the company we were promised in this mornings meeting. I was also in the room when around 50 operational staff were read a statement from a senior manager. Due to the shift pattern worked at Felixstowe we were the last group of staff to be informed officially, the first were told on Tuesday. Not all those placed 'at risk' were there, as many are day workers and therefore no questions were answered in that forum.

We were promised a statement would be released, but as there are other ports within the group affected within the UK, this would be coming from HPH.

As pickles has said, those directly affected at this time will be given further details on Monday. By the way, I know pickles all too well and he is not the tea-boy, but who knows where he will end up after the restructure!!!

First, my sympathy for knowing Pickles.
Second, my sympathy for the current woes befalling the docks.
Third, I was aware that this was likely over a month ago and told about the above nearly a week ago, Pickles doesn't seemt to have found out until last Thursday; he is insignificant in all this and may as well be the tea-boy but thanks anyway!

The telling part is that you said "at the moment"; for the record, I would not believe a single word Pickles says about anything so if he TOLD you he is not one of them, I would not believe him.

That's what I was driving at, no offence to you intended.

so ask the Cobra kid if he knew anything before last week.

No offence taken mate, but by saying at the moment this could be just the start of things to come.

Jetski, I'm sorry too because this looks like a softening up.

Discussions had been ongoing for some weeks prior to xmas on a restructure within senior operations management. Feeling is that the forecast downturn in trade from Asia has given the executive the smokescreen to blame the loss of positions on events beyond their control, and make more widespread changes than at first planned. First meeting to disclose was held last Friday, and whispers were released on the back of that meeting over last weekend. Those whispers forced the hand of the senior team to deliver the statement prior to the meeting already planned for Monday. This may also explain the lack of statement as Hong Kong may have had this announcement lined up for Monday for a few weeks?

I first heard just before Christmas (and posted on here) and yet I am nothing to do with the docks so the rumours were already floating around outside. Bad planning perhaps, or maybe a deliberate leak to soften the blow?

That senior team would consist of the idiot Paul Davey who said that the recession would not affect the docks because...

"Cheaper is often bigger, for example a CD player rather than an iPod. People eat more now than they used to.
"So there is a need for bigger ships and more space to accommodate them."

    What a plonker.

Do you know the thing that amazes me?

That there are so many Felixstowe bods on here! I MUST know at least one of you from my time working in and around the docks.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
