At the start of the war Germany didn't have better quality tanks or planes, but they did have better training. As time went on, their tanks were certainly better, they just didn't have enough of them, also they were too technically complicated. Same as the planes. You can have all the tanks in the world but you still need the logistics to move them....(and the crews) Look what happened to Germany in WW2(best tanks, best planes, excellent trained men) it just couldn't sustain the logistics needed to fight on so many fronts. If Hitler hadn't had been so greedy you and I would be goose stepping to work now. Which isn't a bad thing as Germany make the best sausage in the world IMHO;)
We (the allies) went for simplicity and maximum output.
If Hitler hadn't been a total nut, we would probably indeed have been beaten. And I love the sausages and the people.

If they manage to go a second round with Finland I might start worrying. Otherwise I'll just keep passing round the tinfoil helmets.

In unarmed combat too... nearly every Spetsnaz soldier would be way too strong for the SAS in my opinion. Their martial-arts training in incredible. "Systema." A proper combat-effective martial art. There is some of it on YouTube demonstrated by both serving and ex-Spetsnaz soliders (quite a few I've met). It is like magic.
Just one example, which a Spetsnaz Colonel personally demonstrated to me, which anyone can see the effectiveness of:
Any pole type weapon like a baseball bat.. long axe even. If an attacker comes at you with a direct overhead swing, to bring down the weapon directly over your head/body:
Hands together in prayer position, arms locked straight-out and up high into the air to meet the trajectory of the blow - to preferably meet the shaft of the weapon.
With that technique the attacker's weapon simply slips down the side of your arm.
All the impact energy is intercepted and redirected harmlessly away from your body.
An instant after the attacker's re-chanelled energy continues down towards the floor, the spetsnaz soldier would be positioned to the side to snap the attacker's neck in any combat situation.0 -

!!!!!! were you doing meeting a Spetsnaz Colonel? (As long as you don't have to kill me if you tell me)Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Erm so what does he do if the attacker DOESN'T attack from straight down above his head?? run? and what if he users a gun?
I would like to make a point here...the SAS/SBS are and will continue you be the best SF in the world....a simple fact not made up, not from some newspaper, not becase I'm a Soldier...but fact! Hence why almost every country in the world asks for them when terrorists strike...thats including the American's
For those that don't know
SF = Special Forces
SAS/SBS = Special Air Service?Special Boat Service
And seeing SF's main roll in war is to operate far behind enemy lines its very unlikely the SAS and Spetsnaz would actually cross pathsIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
If he does something else, then so do youErm so what does he do if the attacker DOESN'T attack from straight down above his head?? run? and what if he users a gun?
If he uses a gun then its out of my experience
but I expect that if you are close enough, you do something, if you are too far away you die, or chuck dirt in his eyes

Do the Americans/French/Italians/Brazilians/whoever say the same thing?
Britons like to think that their thing is the best. So do the citizens of every other country.
For example, British people bang on about how the NHS is envied the world over. It isn't. British dentistry is a laughing stock and the rest of British medical cover isn't considered.0 -

It was just one example, and I'm not going to try and describe systema techniques for all situations.
Lotus,. in 98 the local news carried a piece of a martial-arts instructor who'd invited a couple of Spetsnaz soldiers over, so I got in contact with him and asked if we could attend one of the evenings they were demonstrating their martial arts.
All the black-belts.. they were just toyed with when they came at the Russian soldiers. They barely expended any energy. No protracted karate type fights. Always it was to get the opponent to the floor as quickly as possible to finish it, and always done like magic. Total control.
The Colonel was however, called Gina.

The SAS actually train/advise the US Seals/Green Beret and most other NATO countries...and for you Generali the Australian SAS (which I've worked with)If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

Interesting to know, thanks. Is this reciprocal or do the members of the SAS have skills such that they don't need input from outside*?
*I guess this could be read as antagonistic in some way. It isn't meant to be.0 -

Thats Just it tho Gen...I think you'll find that actually this is one of their stongest attributes (if thats the right word) is they learn from other people/SF/units and just fine tune it.....they are extremely adaptable...which IMHO why they are the best.
And General H. Norman Schwarzkopf (Commander coalition forces) said himself in the first Gulf war that the SAS were the only quailfied SF to do the job they did.....Delta never got a look
And no offence taken ;-)If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
