Arent Russians traditionally some of the worst trained soldiers in the world anyway? And that was then, its hard to see how far they'd get in their broken down tanks and 1970s bombers.

If they manage to go a second round with Finland I might start worrying. Otherwise I'll just keep passing round the tinfoil helmets.

The Russian economy will be in a lot of trouble with the new lower oil prices. There's also a massive demographic problem as Russians gave up having children in the 1980s.

I wouldn't say the worst trained but one of the worst equipped......The training the Russian Army recieves is actually very good because they use LIVE ammunition when on exercise, including REAL chemicals when training in a NBC enviroment. I believe no other Army in the world does this....We certainly don't.

NBC = Nuclear Biological and Chemical

    Mine too. The Spetsnaz.

Lets hope it doesn't happen because I fear you are underestimating the Russian Special Forces + maybe the whole Russian military capability.

the world is a different place now. it is no longer a case of who has got the biggest !!!! (oops meant missile) anymore in todays world. nor is it a case of who has the most advanced weapons. proof - why cant the most powerful nations with the most advanced misssiles get bin laden after all these years, why couldnt they sort the iraq conflict or the afghan one.

hasnt the world got enough nuclear weapons to end the world many times over. what difference is a few less going to make. the savings if any will be useful for other public services hopefully

Which isn't a bad thing as Germany make the best sausage in the world IMHO;)

I would've thanked you for the rest of that post, but this sentence....
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Though the comment was meant to lighten the subject
