It could be argued that a camera is NOT an essential feature of a mobile handset, and if you don't/wouldn't use that feature, why should you have to pay for it in your handset cost? Is it not the networks who impose this on consumers, so that they can earn themselves (up to) 50p for each photo message that's sent?
This review of a Nokia 6021 is interesting, as it suggests that many businesses have been searching for a reliable handset without an unnecessary camera. (The 6021 doesn't have a camera.)0 -

cos that s how it works with nokia or a normal mp3, just a guess! !
No i have not got that0 -

sometimes, used to capture the precious momentI have only had a camera on my phone for a few months, I always have digital cameras around because I sell them, I never think of taking photos with my phone.0

used weeklyI never use a digital camera now, I only ever use my phone. I've got a sony ericcson K750i and the camera is amazing for a phone, at 2mp. Took 400 pictures when I was away for a month in August, had to buy a new memory card as I filled the one that came with it! It goes everywhere with me, mainly because it is a phone, not for the camera functionality, but if photo opportunity arises I've got it there to use.Sexkitten

true, but since i have always had a phone with camera for the past 3 years (since the Sharp GX10 first came out) and due to the fact that i believe most of us have a camera phone by now, so ignored that.
but i suppose the option could be intergrated with the last option: 'never, dont get the point of camera phone'!0 -
