  • Hi Pips Mum!

Lots of mums on here so far so I felt I should give a new dad's point of view! ;)

Our DD was born in October - obviously I can't comment on how painful the labour was, but once it was over my OH just had the biggest smile on her face :D .

We have some washable nappies but even though they're supposed to fold up really small, they end up so big that our DD can't move her legs properly! So we're using a mix of them and disposables (supermarket own brands just as good as the branded ones - and like everyone else has said, watch out for the special offers!) until she grows into them properly.

OH was breast-feeding for three weeks but DD just wasn't getting enough milk from that so we had to switch to bottle feeds - it was a difficult decision to make at the time but she's thriving now.

We love the sleeping bag that we got - DD is a real kicker so would end up without any covers on if we didn't have it! Clothes have mostly come from relatives and friends - but I had to dash to the shops the day after she was born to get some tiny baby sized clothes because she was so much smaller than expected (despite being four days overdue).

Good luck for when she/he arrives - it's been hard work for the last couple of months but so worthwhile - I just went in to check her in her cot and she smiled at me so I had to pick her up for a cuddle and am now trying to type one-handed!

I'm a real sucker for her smile! Could mean trouble later on in life though... ;)

I came back to say that if and when you do move on to bottles, take a careful look at all the sterilisers around - I've seen some really fancy ones which promise to be ultra-fast, but they seem to be so fiddly and you can never fit in everything you need to sterilise. Ours is basically just a big bucket with a couple of trays; it takes a while to finish but it's dead easy to use and can fit loads of bottles, teats and so on.

Maybe it will be a New Year baby? I went in to hospital as hospital staff were coming out of their social club to cheer the New Year. It was a lovely, exciting time to have a baby, although the newspaper photos were a mixed blessing, nice souvenir for her but horrible shock for me (why didn't they let me have a mirror first!) Good luck.

Agreeing with the post from the gentleman re sterilisers, yes you get the posh all singing all dancing models but they all do the same job at the end of the day.

I had a combi steriliser, it was 5 mins in microwave, kept the bottles sterile for an hr (just water no expensive sterilising solutions), but it also functioned as a cold water steriliser, added the water, a tablet and that water was sterile for 24hrs and u could use the water for the 24hr period. We only had 1 power cut but the cold water side of it was a godsend. xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
