Need to buy Pip a new car seat but oh man thats a whole confusing and expensive world!!
Hi Pipsmum
I know a bit about car seats (knew someone who was an expert at Britax) and basically you get what you pay for. Obviously, their main function is to protect babe in the unlikely event of a crash.
No:1 is that they must be fitted to your car EXTREMELY tightly - where they cannot move a centimetre - either side ways or forwards /back. Every car is different, so it's a good idea to get it fitted at a store (even if you end up buying online, you can check whether a certain model fits your car). I was behind a car yesterday and the car seat was wobbling about so much the child was holding on to the top of the seat to keep it still!!!
Side impact protection is also important - ie: how deep the sides are - and generally this is lacking on cheaper seats. I know it's not a very money saving thing to say, but if I was buying one I'd get the best even if it meant paying more than I could afford (for me that's Maxi Cosi, but Britax are good too), he'll prob be in this one til he's about 3/4, so it will pay for itself.
You can buy second-hand if you're 100% sure the seat has not been in a crash (then they need binning).
Sorry for butting in, but I know stuff about them post-crash (and wish I didn't), so feel I have to share it for the Nation!
All the best!:)
Mac
Ps Nearly forgot, make sure that when buying you go off Pips weight - not his age. That goes for all stages! Take Care0 -
:j:j:j:j Hi all, pram looks lovely Pipsmum. Sleep on it before you decide. Ragstoricheswanabe is right they do love going forward and seeing what is going on around them, so much to see at that age. Could you sell your current pushchair to go towards it?
Its right though the bigger the pram the more impractical it is for getting in car etc. I had one for no 2 DS and it looked lovely but it got on my nerves putting it up and down, needed a degree in engineering!
Going to buy a small greenhouse tomorrow with money made on Ebay over the weekend, money I should not be spending but I will hopefully save on buying fruit and veg as gonna grow my own (if it works)!!!!!
No 1DS needs kitting out with some interview clothes too tomorrow as he has an interview for an apprenticeship on Tuesday. At least if he gets it he can buy his own clothes then!!
Went to Twin Lakes in Leicester yesterday with kids. Good value for a day out, £10.50 per person and all free inside. Took own food so no buying food and drinks inside.
They are off school this week so things always become more expensive but going to try my very best to be good.
Good night to all.0 -
Forgive me Martin as I may be about to sin!!!
Hampster I would value your input as my OH says "what do we want another b****y pram for" !!!

I'm with OH on this one , but then I also say that about shoes, handbags bubble bath etc and it still gets brought.:rotfl::rotfl:
Id always try before you buy it if it doesnt fold down easy then its just going to be an expensive hassle ,pop into a baby shop and see whats there find one you like then go back on ebay then at least you know what your getting:oMember of change Pip's name back to PIP club
:jI've only blooming got my name on it :j0 -
Hi macgirl :hello: thanks for the advice on the car seats. Ive looked at them again and can see what you mean about the side impact and other safety things, of course at the end of the day his safety is the main thing not money so I think we are going to have a nice Britax one that ive seen in Mothercare for £99 and they will fit it for free.
Hampsterpoo how can you not see the merits of shoes and handbags , but good points that you raise. Will pop into mothercare in week and have a look at them. Im watching one on Ebay at the minute and its going for £37 it only has a couple of hours left on it so will see how much it goes for in the end.
Spendtoomuch what is twinlakes? We are not far from leicester so always on the look out for nice cheap days out. I think my growhouse has paid for itself already, I got mine in Wilkos for £11 I think.
So its been a lovely day again and because we were so busy yesterday we managed to et it all done so we could relax today. We have had a PJ day and just chilled. Ive packaged up al my Ebay parcels, which I hate doing. I seem to have a love hate relationship with Ebay at the moment, love the £254 its earned me in the last 30 days but hate the packaging and listing and general faff that goes with it. Still not bad money I suppose if you worked it out into an hourly wage.
Ive updated my 101 in 1001 blog http://pinkfairygirlsflightoffancy.blogspot.com/ must try and keep it up to date and ot forget about it.

Hi all. Twin Lakes is a small theme park for young children, its really really good. No good if you have older children of probably 11 and over but brill for younger children. They have animals and loads of rides. They also have two huge indoor play barns which are really good especially if the weather is not brilliant. At £10.50 a person its a brilliant day out, they also have one in Nottingham and down South somewhere. Highly recommend it.
I know what you mean about Ebay, I listed some more stuff last night and find it such a fag but the extra money is fab. I listed a starter pack for Slimming World which you get when you join and its up to £17.51 and not finished yet, was going to throw it in the bin! I have been to kit DS1 out for his apprenticeship interview tomorrow, cost a fortune, he had to have trousers, shirt, belt and a jacket, went to Next and £160 later..... he better get the flipping job now! Went to garden centre and potted up lots of tumbling tomato plants and planted some peppers and cucumbers. Also did two hanging baskets. Getting sorted now so I can watch Britain's Got Talent, sad cow that I am, I love it!! Back to work tomorrow, boo hoo, really don't want to go but the debts have to be paid!!
How is the pram doing on Ebay?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Oh that sounds really nice, will have to bear it in mind when Pips a little bit bigger.
The pram is still only on £37 and has 3 hours left, my finger is literally twitching over the bid button!!! It says it has a 1cm rip in the car seat fabric so I think thats why its low, but I dont want the carseat anyway!!Debt at LBM [strike]£17,544[/strike] £5700:TOver £14,000 PAID OFF :T
