sorry to hear you've been unwell after christmas hope you recover soon enough to get the sale pressy's that you need. Because of our move i've had to not go and get most of next years pressies and some birthday pressies, but i'm really finding it hard as it's contrary to my usual nature.

ps i got the lampshades :) but had to walk past a lovely shiney red kettle :(

Hi Monkeynut! I will have to see if I can find it, it was on here somewhere!! It asks you questions like do you reuse your teabags and such ha ha ha got to be honest cringed when I had to answer yes to some of them but needs must!!!

LT - Yay to the lampshades but oh Im sure that lovely kettle should come to live with you, its an essential purchase!

I have an epic post to write as MIL has been up to her usual tricks again and also I managed to get to the sales today so need to report my spends. But in all truth I am so weary from the sale Mr Pip and I are going to bed to watch a DVD so the suspense will just have to grip you until morning!!!

    Night all x x x

will sit twiddling my fingers whilst i wait for the MIL episode, i think our MIL's are pretty much the same so you have my sympathy. enjoy your mooch in bed with Pip. night night.

i'm sure the kettle is essential as long as i forget that ours probably gets used once a week and we already have a perfectly good one to use.

    Morning all!
So I hope the suspense didnt kill you over night!

Mr Pip and Pip came home from visiting the MIL, first time since before Christmas. She has bought Pip a motorbike! She said it has to stay at her house and he is only allowed to play with it when shes there so of course where does the hyper 2 year old want to go? She just HAS to try and out do everyone, she only buys a gift for what other people will think of her and of course then she thinks because Pip wants to go to her house its because he loves her more than anyone else, NO STOOOOPID he loves the bike!
Am I wrong to be annoyed? Should I just be happy that my boy has a present he loves even if its been given to him for entirely the wrong reasons? Am I right to be a little annoyed that she didnt consult us on a potentially dangerous and to my mind unsuitable present for a 2 year old?

I think to be honest even she has excelled herself on this one!!!!

So I managed to go into town yesterday to the sale and I was really disappointed with the sales but pleased with what I bought IYSWIM!!! I thought the shops had very little but the the items I did buy were good as gifts. Best thing was a HUGE Dove set from Boots for £7.50, its massive and looks really expensive. I also got some Body Butters from The Body Shop which were £12.50 reduced to a fiver. Really good friend is 40 on Jan 12th so Ive got him a D&G aftershave set £49 dowm to £27, wouldnt normally spend that much but as its a special Birthday I dont mind. Total in Boots came to £81 and I had a £10.00 voucher so £70 for the majority of Birthday / Mothers Day pressies for the year. Need to check off my list properly but I think there is just a couple more Birthdays theat I can buy for now and also Fathers Day.
Mum is 60 and Auntie is 50, both in August (YIKEs!) and I want to get them something nice, maybe a night in a hotel or something. Going to keep looking for a 2 nights for price of one or maybe a little break on Groupon.

Right ramble over, look forward to hearing responses about MIL, have a good day all x x

does sound like you did well in Boots. You're being very organised, all i usually achieve in the sales is next years christmas pressies, but i can't even do that this year.
as to the motorbike i'm not sure how i'd feel, i do think that it's a bit much for a two year old, but by the same token i think she's forgotten that two year olds often fall out of love with things as quickly as they fall in. He'll soon forget about the bike or won't be bothered with it if he only gets to use it when he's there with her.

Haha, wish you could see the picture in my head of a little 2 year old on a big Harley Davidson bike! :D :rotfl:

Does seem a bit old for him - what age does it say it's meant to be from? I would be worried as well if I was in your situation, because i know you tend to avoid going with them when they go there, so it's not even like you are there to supervise.
I'm sure soon enough the novelty will have worn off, it usually does!

I've not ventured into the sales yet, but will at some point in the next few days. From what people have said it doesn't seem to be too busy in my town so at least it won't be too bad, unlike Christmas eve when I had to go out and get the last few bits (that's the trouble with thinking I'm more organised than I actually am!! :D:o) and it was so packed, I was fighting a losing battle trying to get a bored toddler in a pushchair, and an 8 and 3/4 months pregnant whale bump around! Not something I would want to repeat!! Sounds like you've done well with some bargains though!

LT - I know a lot of people get next years Christmas presents but I cant be that organised, happy enough with the Birthdays as it saves me a tonne and the people get nicer presents than they would have eg £10 actually gets them a £20 pressie. I also make sure I get stuff that "looks" a lot.

Monkey - Not long until new baby, how exciting! Have you looked online at the sales? I ordered a few bits from Boots and also got my friend a handbag from accesorize. Might be worth a go if you cant face the actual shops.

You are both right, I guess he will soon get bored of the bike. Its not so much that I am bothered about her trying to outdo me and me and Mr Pip but that she is trying to buy his love. She is VERY jealous of my mother and that she gets to look after him whilst I am at work but then that may be because my Mum isnt a fruit loop who tried to steal my son!!!!!!

I've had a look online yes, particularly as more and more places are doing free delivery options, or click and collect which is always a bonus. I daren't look at Accesorize - very dangerous for me! I could end up spending a (not so) small fortune in there. And I must admit I'm avoiding getting people presents from Boots for another year or so as I work for Boots, and the last couple of years my friends and family are probably a bit sick to death of Boots presents now!! :D

Will have a mooch around the shops and the internet though!

With your MIL, at least when Pip's older, he will start to realise himself what a nut job she is :D

i think there's always folk within an extended family who try to buy affection or who are completing with the other side of the family, it's stupid and silly but that's the way some folk operate. My MIL would love me if i would just tell her what i earn and play the 'i'm better than x game' but i won't so thinks of me as she will.
