I agree with crazyhazy Asda nappies aro also good I just find them a bit bulky but no leaks. On the other hand my experience with Huggies is they leak but they do best wipes. Asda had them recently on special offer, pack of 4 for £3.90. Supermarket's own are not bad but they are very thin so you end up using more. I tend to used cotton and water most of the time so wipes last me ages.Official DFW Member no:4100

Hi Pips Mum! Good to see you doing this as we can all do with all the help we can get when we're expecting. You're doing all this in a very sensible way as there are always so many mums out there who can give help, both now and when Pip becomes a sapling! Please though, as other have said (and no doubt you've been told often) don't be scared of the birth, yes, it's painful, but it's pain of the most wonderful kind, it's a beautiful pain and all you should think of and focus on is that darling bundle at the end of it. A very special pain would be my way of putting it!:A
My little treasures are grown up now, but oh how I'd love to have their childhood years back again, to relive it all and make sure I take time to thoroughly enjoy each second of it all. Treasure each minute Pips Mum, they go so very fast, just keep it in mind!
Where the paying back of debt is concerned, it's no good worrying about that either. It might seem now as though it'll be a heck of a time before you're through with it, but it's amazing how soon that time will pass and you'll be in to the future with memories of debt gone by .....and still have all the joy your little darling will be bringing!
Every best wish Pips Mum, chat again on the other thread!

Just wanted to say huge congrats.
Biggest shock for me having my first child was the cost not so much cost of buying initial lit was loss of income that hurt us.
Right my top tips wish soemone told me when pregnant.
1)dod consider cloth nappies as new ones have wraps and do up with velcro /poppers not safety pins folded squares. You can get all difrent funky colours and teh wraps that go over top of 2parts can be coloured or patterened or u could opt for pocket with insert which si just and quick and easy as disposable once prestuffed as can go straight on.
Some local councils give you money or free nappies as part of thir recycling intiative so check what you entitled to.
As for workload you dont notice as with newborn washing machine constantly n so few nappies per day made no difference although i kep in big bucket and washed all at one every 2-3days.
2)clothes we foolishly brought far too many outfits particuarly newborn which she wasent in for long and got given tonnes for presents.
All you really need for first few months is
Hats/mittens
vests-12
sleepsuits6-12 as they do get messy
cardies2-3
snowsuit
-this time of year
maybe one or 2 outfits must admit foudn joggers with fully elasticated waists much easier than tight trousers.
We prefer wrapover style vets as was paranoid when tint about getting her dressed. Foudn baby gap socks only one stat stayed onshe hated shoes!
Do check out jan sales our daughter born in feb so did lots of shopping b4 hand debenhams had silly sales, primark and supermarkets fab for basics and I liked mini mode at boots a soften had offers and could collect advantage points as well as beloging to boots and tesco baby clubs.
3)equipment- I guess you prob got lots do accept kind offers, dont forget fab bargains at carboots and nearly new nct sales as well as ebay and local paper just rememebr always new mattress and always new carseat everything else ok second hand. Ikea great for newer cheap babby stuff.
3)toys keep to min as a rule I liked
1hanging baby toy for carseat or buggy
2)bbaynest/babygym as safe place to leave or alternatvily soft padded baby blanket
3)1-2rattles
4)soft book
5) teether
6)one small cuddly toy.
4)long way off yet but weaning jars are pricey get cheap handblender and puree fruit and veg to make your ownother than that stick to water and milk I breastfed mainly so big saving there.
5)dont fork out too much on expensive buggies just ensure you have one that lies completly flat also if you use public transport slings or baby carrier much easier and cosy in early months.
Good luck its so much fun,im so broody.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

Wow! More fab tips and my diary isnt even a day old yet!!
crazyhazy and mrs-d hopefully I will be able to breastfeed Pip its definately in my grand plan for so many reasons. Mum couldnt with me, not sure if it runs like that in familys?
Sue lots of people have said the same about it being good pain. I hope to keep in mind that with every painful bit it brings me a bit nearer to meeting Pip (and it all being over!!:rotfl:)
gailey thats a fab list thanks. I fear we may have gone OTT on the clothes already but I bought many different sizes in the sales throughout the year so at least they are not all newborn. We did get quite a few things in Ikea so will keep checking back there. When they are weaning we definately plan to mush up veg and things like that at home. Cheaper and you know exactly whats going into it.
I am hoping for a NSD today, had to go and pick up OH car from garage (£207!) but nothing else planned for the day. Going to my mums for tea and she is making a chinese, yummy!! Sat last night and worked out how much income I will have next year from whats left of my wages, SMP and child benefit it will be tight but should be manageable. Aiming to pay as much as I can off of my debts whilst still getting full pay to make minimum payments less for when I am only getting SMP or worse nothing.
Going to keep chipping away at the debts but not stress out too much over them .

Congratulations on your pregnancy, I bet you are counting down the days now. Can't wait to see your annoucement on the boards.
I am another Tesco nappy convert. I used them for my little girl from newborn right up to pull ups. I also swear by their wipes as they are half the price of pampers ones etc.Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712

Non mummys are welcome too!!
When shops are not so busy I will definately look around for own brand nappies and wipes and see which are cheapest.
Have got a stock of nappies, different sizes, as I was just popping a pack in with the shopping for the last few months but will need more wipes.Debt at LBM [strike]£17,544[/strike] £5700:TOver £14,000 PAID OFF :T

Congrats on the likkle one!
It's always a struggle financially when a little one comes along but it's love that counts! Freecycle and Gumtree can be good to get free baby equipment.
I gave my kid's old cot away on there!
The baby does not give a damn if s/he is wearing 2nd hand clothes, sleeping in a second hand cot and being pushed around in a second hand pram.
Join the Tesco & Boots baby clubs and make sure you get their goody bags - you should have had the Bounty and Sally's diary ones already!
Look into what child benefit you will get once the baby comes along and start to work out a new budget on the new income.

I used Tesco's when my DD was small.. they are fab... but used Huggies pull ups for her which are amazing value at the moment, can get 2 packs from Asda for £5... thats about 44 in total. She is now fully dry at night so doesn't need them anymore, but I still notice the prices of things.
Pipsmum - don't feel pressured to buy all matching nursery stuff, and also a top and tail bowl and baby bath are next to useless.. much better to get a bath seat for baby and put in big bath straight away.
Also I would totally recommend baby sleeping bags rather than cot shets/blankets etc... they are fantastic.
Congratulations and good luck!!0 -
Agree with Izzy above- I got a bath seat to go in the big bath and it lasted ages!
I used to actually get into the bath with my baby and it was good for skin to skin bonding (until she pooed in there)
The baby sleeping bag was great too, I got one that was quite a bit bigger than my baby and again it lasted ages because there was plenty of room for growth and she couldn't slip down into it.
Handy for picking baby up too, all snuggled up in a little bag.
