That must have been so difficult for you to see. But to look to the positive, think about how much better he is compared to this time last week.
The photobook pressie you made for him sounds fab, and very MSE, so well done for doing that even at a difficult time.

  • hiya, sorry to hear but your grandad, but what the nurses said is true. The first thing we do is check someones urine if they are unusually confused, but also the time in icu may be to blame. They dont fully switch off as there is too much noise, nurses, doctors, machines bleeping, ventilators puffing away. It has been researched well and some have even reported dreaming about conversations etc that happened whilst they were "out" in icu. Give him a day or two and he will be back to his old self.

just thought, if he was in icu im assuming he had a catheter in, this is prob the cause if he does have a urine infection as the body sees it as a foreign body. The nurses should of sent a sample off so should know pretty soon and be able to treat him.

please excuse the waffle, its early, im tired and caffine not kicked in yet!

    Hi Everyone:wave:

Grandad is doing a bit better, the hallucinations have become less frequent and he is a bit more normal. Still very, very exhausted and drifting in and out of sleep but on the whole I am happy. :D

SO just get that sorted and he then splits several of his stitches underneath dressing, nobody knew until it got changed. He has an upside down 7 scar and the join of the 2 parts of the 7 (IYSWIM) have split. He has quite a deep hole now and they have 3 rolls of cotton gauze packing it out:eek:. They cant stitch it again as there is infection in there so they have put a drain in to hopefully clear that up. It seems to be a bit like the DFW journey, 2 steps forward and 3 back!

On a MSE front I just sorted out my 83 year old Grannys Christmas present:santa2:. Was watching Strictly Come Dancing and it clicked in my brain that she loves it so went on good old Amazon and got her:
    Craig Revell Horwords autobiography
    Len Goodmans Autobiography
    Book about Brucey
Strictly live at the O2 dvd
    The music of strictly CD
    & Strictly annual 2010

All for the princely sum of £6.34!!!!! There was £5 of postage on top but I am not counting that as I dont add petrol or parking costs onto other presents.

I just want to find a little glitterball now, pop them all in a glitzy gift bag and Voila!

I am PANICKING about the next few months as we have a little holiday booked in October, Car needs MOT and parking permit in November, Christmas and OHs Birthday is in December. Its going to be a really tight few months. Anyone joining me on the ride?:rotfl:

That sounds Fab for your grannys birthday. It's amazing what you can get for so little on Amazon, and of course she will think you spent much more!! :D So everyone wins. Love the glitter ball idea as well! I've seen keyrings with mini glitterballs on, so that might be something to look out for, unless it would be a bit too small??

Glad to hear your grandad is doing better, depsite the complications. Theres's always something isn't there, but generally on the mend so :)

I'm definately with you for the ride of the next few "Eeeeek months"!!! Especially as my maternity pay will stop at the start of December! Just what I need for christmas! Although we have already got lots of presents over the year, and if we can manage to be as savy as you then I'm sure we'll be just fine.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek I remember the dread of the Mat pay stopping! Good Luck! As you say just around Christmas is not the best time, but sounds like you are organised.:money:

I just did very well at B&Q. A few weeks ago we bought some laminate flooring with my bonus money, we got them for 75% off and paid about £3ish a pack. Took the unused boxes back to the store today and told them I had lost the receipt (which I genuinely had!) no problem she says I can search for it. So she searches and finds it but cannot access it to see barcodes and prices and stuff. She rang the manager and he said it was a fault on the styem and just to refund it. She refunded it back at todays price.......................£11.99!!!!!:j:j

Fab news about B&Q! It's a shame you didn't have more to take back!

I've just realised when I was on about my Mat pay ending, is that I was thinking it would stop at the start of December, which it sort of does as that's when my Mat Leave finishes, but because of the way the pay is worked out I should still get some money at the end of December. So that's good news I guess. Dreading having to go back to work though :(

How is your grandad doing? And how's Pip?!?

Not going to lie going back initially SUCKS! But then you do kind of come to be glad of some adult conversation.

Grandad had another set back in the night:( He has moisture in his lungs still from the ventilator and the anaesthetic and it has given him a chest infection. He woke and couldnt breathe and it led to a panic attack which of course made it worse.
