    system mechanic 6?
Sounds like a registry cleaner to me. Theyre NEVER good (Aside from CCLEANERS say)
Can you put the registries back the way they were using that program? (And id REALLY advise against using it, if indeed it does delete registries)
What im basically saying is its possible its deleted something it shouldnt have (A fault with 99.9% of registry cleaners)

  • hi alienrik

i dont understand it i havent used system mechanic recently for that to happen, the last time i used it was weeks ago and its been working fine since

i hav eht original windows xp disc and also have a 250gb external hard drive, would re0installing windows fix this? or is there anything else i can do.

You have remnants of both Norton AND avg still in the hijack list
As they bother monitor its possible its one or the other thats the problem

    Use the norton uninstall tool
    http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

    and the AVG removal tool
    http://www.avg.com/download-tools

    Install ccleaner
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
    Reboot

Run the top 2 scans in ccleaner (temps etc and registries)

    try again.....

  • hi

i installed and ran those 2 uninstall tools for norton and avg from the links you said, and i ran the cleaner for internet and windows explorers and system files, and i also ran the scan on the registeries and it removed over 1000 files, rebooted the pc

but unfortunately the updates still failed...

is there anything else i can try

merry christmas to you, have a nice day tomorrow

    thanks

I've noticed that some of the updates have to be done in either a specific order or one at a time! Try them one at a time see he they install that way...

2nd that, for some reason Office updates seem to cause me problems at times, I've found that installing singly can sometimes succeed.
    Move along, nothing to see.
