IRC / chatroom

Many of the threads on these forums are simply filled with banter. I find this irritating, although I suppose there's nothing wrong with it. Some people like random chatter, some do not. That's fine.

As it seems a lot of people do enjoy chatting away, why not start an irc channel/server?
(For those who don't know, IRC stands for internet Relay Chat; it is basically just an online chatroom)

This would mean people could chatter much more efficiently, rather than keeping clicking refresh on a forum, and I'm sure this would help save server resources as well!

Has this been mentioned before?

What do you think?

  • Hi angry

As long as the chat on the core MoneySaving boards is about the topic we have no problem with that. The forum has a great, friendly community and we want to keep it that way :)
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

Does sound like a good idea, but if MSE were to start an irc server they'd need to firstly make sure their server provider allows IRC servers, since it can use up alot of bandwidth, secondly services would be needed for the sake of keeping usernames "protected" for the user and thirdly a network administrator and ircop (IRC Operator) would be needed to keep things under control.

Maybe an irc channel on somewhere like EFNet would be most practical for starters?
