AOL Broadband Gold

Hey Guys, I just checked my AOL Account tonight, its a new feature on their website which lets you check your package and invoices and it says im on the "AOL Broadband Gold" package. Now I pay £24.99 a month for this and have done ever since 2004, Im aware that this package no longer exists but when it did there were no usage limits, it was 'Unlimited Downloads'

Now I have checked AOL's new packages and realise they all vary. The £9.99 package has a Usage limit of 10GB a month, the £14.99 one is 40GB and a new plan they have called Platinum 3, including you take AOL Talk as well gives you Unlimited usage.

As I said before, I pay more then all of these.. £24.99. anyone else out there on the same plan? So I emailed AOL directly today and told them that I was still on their old plan forking out £24.99 a month, more then any of their other plans and wanted to know what my Monthly Download limit was. I was expecting it to be something quite reasonable.. maybe 60GB+ but then they sent me this response.

Are they having a joke? 20GB is nothing for the price I am paying. surely this person cant be correct, ive been told 40GB in the past and im sure I must download more then that every month.

If you've been on this since '04 then you are "out of Contract" you can either change ISP with no penalty or you can take out a new contract with AOL for the correct package (You should qualify for the FREE GIFT of a PS3 or Webbook.) Best check with people here! but i've read on here about people who were out of contract with AOL and got the free gift when they took out a new one! :D

Thank You for the reply. I think in the new year I may go looking for another ISP then as I do like to download. The free gift from AOL for signing up to a new package looks nice but I dont think it would be worth it if it means me having to sign up to a new 18 month contract and probably be stuck with a 10GB Monthly usage limit.

Thank you for that, I have used those tools before but the problem is that there are also 2 other computers using the wireless router so it is hard to measure the total usage for the month.

When I say downloading, I meant to say that we tend to use YouTube a lot, download albums, use iPlayer etc.. much more then 20 GB would give us. Its really odd because I reckon we've gone over 20 GB in around two weeks before and as far as I know they havent capped us or sent us any letters so it makes me wonder if the AOL email I received is telling the truth or just trying to get me to move to one of their other packages with a 40GB download limit and a new 12 month contract. As I said before, over the months ive been told different amounts by different people at AOL. On AOL Live Help before i was even told that my package was Unlimited, then another time I was told it was 40 GB and now this person is telling me it is 20 GB download limit per month.

Its something that really bugs me as this package is not available to the public anymore and as myself and im guessing a handful of others are on it, We are unable to check for ourselves what the plan includes.

I've been with AOL since the year dot and I've only paid £9.99 a month for the last couple of years. I was on the £17.99 package but I complained when they offered new users £14.99. Just ring them up and tell them you want to leave and they will offer you a new deal. I didn't get a free laptop but I did get a new wireless router out of them for free.

I've never incurred any download limits.

How did you find out what package you are on?

How did you find out what package you are on?

If you login to your account it should say 'Manage Your Account' and you can find out your package and price you are paying.

What plan are you on?

Just says standard. I've never been told there is a download limit and I've never been charged extra.

Hey! Ive been with AOL since 2001, and I'm on Platinum, but paying for Gold due to them seriously messing with us and me getting in touch with ofcom!

When I rang them a year ago to ask about the new changes to the plans, and if they would affect me, I was told the restrictions on usage [other than the fair usage policy] would not affect me, and i would still be getting unlimited download usage.

Im going to double check with them though, they had a habit in the past of dwindling things!

I didnt realise the new plans were so cheap! im going to go with the cheapest instead

Hey there! yes their new plans are pretty cheap but if you tend to use YouTube, iPlayer, download music a lot then I really do not recommend them because it means you are stuck on a new 18 month contract with them and are given a small 10GB Monthly usage limit (around 350MB usage a day)

Oh if you do give them a call please can you try and find out if the AOL Broadband Gold and Platinum packages are still Unlimited or what the exact monthly cap is and possibly let me know through here, I would be really grateful. I couldnt get through when I tried and had to ask through email which im sure I received an automated reply.
