Xmas 2008 Ruined!

had a phone conversation with the DWP today to find out why my sick note 'got lost' in the post and then all turned up this morning at same time 1 was sent on 17th November and second 3 December. With xmas coming up and having not had any benefits since November 11th i am pretty much living on very little everyday. I really thought i wouldn't have any money for xmas. So i asked them how long would it take to get my payment the lady told me it will take 5 days (which i know is normal) but then she said as i was too late to get the early payment I wont get my money until New Year!

As i know its neither my fault or there fault she wasn't very understanding that i literally have £20 left to last me until my next payment. She then said that that was all she could do and rang off. Although i have never really spent much on xmas itself the idea that i cant afford to buy any of my family and close friends presents or even a card!

I know there's nothing you guys can do to help lol! but i just needed somewhere to rant! Im hoping that a miracle happens and i do get paid early but i doubt it very much. Anyway merry xmas everyone :D

Why have you left it until now to chase it up?

If you really do have nothing, you could apply for a Crisis Loan?
    Gone ... or have I?

    Hi
I really feel for you. I had my benefits messed up once before and found myself with no money and myself, husband and 2 kids to feed etc. I rang the crisis loan people and they put me in touch with someone (cannot remember who it was - may have been social services) who asked how much I needed to tied me over and came to the house with the cash. This is something they didn't want paying back for (I did pay back as felt better that way).
Might be worth trying them and see if they could help.
    Good luck.
  • I have been phoning nearly everyday, i had a doctors appointment yesterday to get yet another duplicate sick note. And with suffering from really bad depression i find it hard to do alot of things. Prob only have myself to blame!
  • So Peter what are you doing for Christmas? I know your real friends won't mind you cant afford things. If your alone do you have food and things in the house? As dmg said a crisis loan would cover any emergencies.

Ring your Jobcentre Plus and ask for the Social Fund in order to get a Crisis Loan. There is a link on direct.gov website where you can download and print a form which you can then take in.

The other alternative is to tell someone in your family or a friend about your situation and see if you can borrow some for two weeks. Do they know you are
    suffering from really bad depression
    ?

Make them cards and explain you can't afford presents this year, you need the money for food.

I can't see anyone being that bothered by it. If they are then they aren't really close friends.

Or why don't you make them something. Presents and cards like this always mean more to me.

Christmas is more than giving presents, cards etc. Be open with your family & friends, and they will be accomodating and understand.

If you really want to have a laugh about it, obtain some enverlopes (i cant spell) and put in some I.O.U's 1x card, 1x present inside it, and in the new year exchange it for a present & card.

If friends look down at you when you have no cash, or that you cant provide material gifts for them, then maybe they arent worthy of being friends.

Christmas is about father christmas coming to your children, the rest can be solved with just spending quality time with people.

    good luck.

This is just a idea do you have a freecyle site where you can sell Items. Maybe you could sell the odd items that you have in your home, dvds, music cds.. This is happening alot on mine, I dont know what your is called mine you.. Mine you cant sell but there is xxxxxx sales where I can post items.. Maybe if you search for yahoo groups in your area you will find a site where you can sell..

You should be able to get a crisis loan but I would go down there and wait to be seen as you may get it the same day then..

Also join your local freecyle site as you may be able to pick up the odd christmas pressie there..

Sorry just thought of something else. Do you have a sainsburys nectar card, as if you do every 500 points = 2.50p off your shopping, or can be used in argos..
