wasn't sure how to phrase the title lol!
anyway, hubby rang this morning asking this - he was driving at 35mph in a 40mph road - yes it was rush hour, and he saw a speed camera flash 0 but doesn't know if it was for him or not.
is this possible or could it have been someone else that got flashed just before him?

Is this a wind up?0 -
Are you sure it was a speed cam?
When it's dark out (as it frequently is in the morning at this time of year) the beam from the headlights of the car following you can bounce off your rear-view mirror causing a "flash", which, to the uninitiated, is not dissimilar to that of a speed camera...If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
AFAIK Theres no specific offence for driving to slowly I think it comes under 'driving with undue care and attention' So having a speed camera set to take a photo of anyone doing under 20 in a 60 limit isnt possible.
Perhaps theres been a traffic Jam and traffic has been at a standstill, Maybe The car has been parked and is just accelerating.Perhaps there is black ice on the road
Theres no black and white when it comes to driving to slowly unlike a speed limit. Speed Limits are the MAXIMUM speed you should travel in IDEAL conditions.0 -
Yes, you can get flashed. If a camera is faulty. Or if someone else set it off.
But if you weren't speeding, it doesn't matter. If they do NIP you, then you have a defence.0 -
I can remember that when I used to travel long distances between home and work, I was flashed by speed cameras when I was not speeding at least three in two years.
Nothing ever came of it, though it did worry me at first. But as I knew I was not going faster than the limit I shouldn't have worried.
I doubt they'll send anything out - as long as your other half was sure the limit was 40.Looking forward to the future.0 -

Speed cameras are not set up to detect this type of offence, or indeed most of the types of bad driving that cause 95% of accidents, but they are extremely efficient at detecting someone doing 35 mph (shock, horror) in a 30 limit.

I'd have said it was something else...
Whe my dad used to drive buses, he was taking a bus load of people into Birmingham one evening when he saw a speed camera flash him, and he thought that can't be right, but was hoping the speedometer hadn't broken.
It is a road with one camera after another on the way into the city (can't recall the name of it).
Anyway, a few minutes further along the road and another camera got him, and then the one after that, despite him having slowed down to under 30 miles an hour in a 40 zone!
Well, he was starting to wonder what the hell was happening as he was being overtaken by every other road user and it was only him being flashed by the speed cameras. Then he noticed the people in the back of the bus were taking photos of each other and it was the camera flash he could see! :rotfl:
He felt a right prat afterwards but said he was convinced it was the speed cameras at the time. I think we get so worried about setting them off that we link anything remotely like it to the speed camera?0 -
To be fair - since slow drivers are amongst the biggest cause of accidents in the UK they should get done for driving too slow.0

I was doing 70mph yesterday in the fast lane of the M4, and some tw*t, clearly going well over the speed limit, almost smashed into me! Since I was driving so "slowly" he got aggressive and started flashing his lights and beeping his horn at me, before veering sharply (no indication) into the centre lane and blasting past me, still beeping his horn!
I think you'll find that most accidents are caused by people driving too fast and losing control of their cars... or driving whilst drunk, and/or using a mobile phone. If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0
