I wish I could offer you some help

It maybe worth finding a second shop that does house clearence, and as he's got a grant get the lot in bulk he might get a discount and delivery for a bulk order

Or even the local free ads or supermarket notice boards for second hand stuff

Well done on helping this boy.:A

If he is leaving care I think they should be helping him also so you might want to check what they are doing for him.

I would echo others about using freecycle. Maybe the local church could help as they often get donations over the x-mas period.

Have you tried asking your friends and family if they have stuff they want to get rid of, sometimes people get new things for x-mas and just throw away the old items so it might be worth asking them for some help.

Also when he is set up in his flat you could advise him to look in the 99p and Poundland type shops as they really have bargains and the stock changes so quickly that he could buy all types of things there. The supermarkets value range also are very economical.

My sincerest apologies RAS - I'd hit the other button, but too late to notice.
Someone has already posted this one, I think:

May I strongly urge you to oversee the Budget Aware side of things, or help him with a Bank Branch appointment, if you're on such a footing?

Ampersand - no apologies needed at all. I nearly did the same thing originally.

Read my sig by the way - it was what I was told by one of my earliest bosses. You can correct mistakes, you cannot correct inaction.

  • I think he'll probably benefit from some lessons in cooking, finances, housekeeping etc "Give a man a garden full of veg and he'll eat for a year, give him the tools to grow one and he'll eat for a lifetime" or something like that :o

I have a friend who helped set her 19 year old son up in his own flat... sourced 2nd hand furniture, stocked his cupboards etc.... after 6 months he was on the streets, the flat was a disaster and he was needing help again.

You are doing a wonderful thing. I just hope he learns how to look after himself not just learns how to get help from others.
  • Tes, what will this lad do about money and bills? Does he work?

Don't forget he is going to need a tv license if he has a tv.
