To be honest, they were faily nice. I've seen some really smug proberdee developer t!ts on the show, but they seemed fairly genuine, and it was their first project. Shame they got burned, really.
The second lot, the brothers who bought the flat next to Cardiff's millenium stadium, were more the standard annoying smug developer fare - talking about making loadsamoney quickly from climbing the 'property ladder'. They probably overpaid for their property at auction, paying £120k, although Martin kept gushing about what a bargain they had gotten. A lick of magnolia paint later and it gets valued at £179,950. They say they will achieve a quick sale and be quids in, but there's no record of it having been re-sold, and it's not on rightmove.
Third guy was the most annoying of all - incredibly smug, and fitted every property developer stereotype going. Pays £142k for a Reading house, spends another £8k on redeveloping it, making a total spend of £150k. Gets valued at £160k by both EAs, but he insists it is worth much more. Never resold, he's renting it out to build up capital value.
N.B. brand new series in the new year - should be even better bear food!poppy100 -

It's been on for the last two weeks. Car-crash viewing, it's great fun to see the property developers who bought in summer '08 suddenly realizing that a lick of magnolia paint and some laminate flooring is not enough to stop them from ending up with a loss of tens of thousands of pounds.competitionscafe wrote: »Any idea when the new series starts?poppy100 -

I like watching Andrew Winters in Selling Houses which pops up on the cable channels.
First off I like the comments he makes "This is really horrible" and "You have a nerve putting your property on the market in this condition". I think they are quite old shows but I still like to see how all the changes he makes get (got) the property sold.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Looks like the genre of property hype programs are coming to a crashing & unceremonius end !
Saw Homes Under Hammer today, people who bought were revisited in Sep 08 & were making massive losses.
1) Man who bought large house in Torbay, knocked it down, built 10 flats.
Can't sell them & refuses to lower prices.
2) Some clueless couple bought an old police station in Ramsgate for £140k, had grand ideas for their project.
Their renovation budget increased from £30k to £80k, total spend will be £220k.
Estate agents valued property after works completed at £170k, giving £50k loss in 1st year.
