Sun £9.50 holidays

Hello all,

I came on here a few weeks ago and after taking the advice of a few people ended up booking a nice cheap summer holiday with Haven.

For my second holiday of the year (around April) I've been collecting the Sun tokens (I get it anyway! - don't judge!) and was wondering whether any of you had used this promotion before? It seems like a typical moneysaving thing to do!?!?

I'm imagining you get put in the cheapest type of accomodation?

Anyway, anyone's thoughts would be really appreciated as I shall probably be sending off the application form on Monday.

Thanks in advance,

Duncan

    Hi Duncan

We've had loads of these holidays and thoroughly enjoyed everyone of them.- my advice is to post the tokens as soon as you can i.e the last day of voucher publication.

The only time we had bad accomodation was when we took our dog with us - but you cant really expect an immaculate place to allow pets can you? - when we didnt have the dog with us the caravan/chalets were of top quality.

  • We've done a few Sun hoidays too - just the luck of the draw what type of accommodation you get.

When your dates/park are allocated you'll get a leaflet sent to you advising that you can upgrade (various prices) or extend your break to 7 nights for the same price again.

Sometimes we've gone for an upgrade others we havent. Best caravan we had was brand new ie "new carpet smell", wrapper still on grill pan on oven etc - lovely, and we hadnt upgraded for that one.

My application is on its way now (needed one token less as had previously had a holiday with them ) Happy camping!!! :D

Thanks, sounds like it should be good then.... I have a nearly four year old and a three monther. This sort of holiday is ideal for them.

I missed the 1st token so won't get to send the form off until Monday night (thinking about it, is there a token on Sunday?).

I will probably put it on recorded delivery (through work!?!?) so it gets there nice and quickly.

Is it usual to completely miss out on a holiday then?

Hopefully, I won't have left it too late.

    Thanks again.

Depends where and when you want to go whether you are likely toget your hoiday or not. My two are a bit older 9 & 5 so we have to stick to school holidays and we tend to only want to go to either one or two parks so we dont put a selection of 4 down.

I think we've only not got a holiday one time, although friends of ours have missed out more than once. If you dont get a holiday then you usually get sent a priority booking form next time around which means you dont have to collect any tokens and can send your application once the form has apeared in the paper - usually on the Wednesday.

Another tip if you dont get your holiday is just to give them a phone - say you're looking to book under the Sun offer and see if they give you anything. My friend did this a couple of years ago and got her goliday at teh Sun price without collecting any tokens - dont think you could count on this working though, but always worth a try :D

    Thanks.

I suppose it might be a good idea to put one down where no one else would probably want to go!?!? Like Wales maybe? Sorry if you're from Wales!

    I'll just cross my fingers...

We go on at least one long weekend a year using the Sun £9.50 deals, and have done for the last 7 years.
All in all we've been very lucky and had good fun breaks with basic but clean rooms or caravans.
One year we went to Butlins in Minehead and our room had not been cleaned ready for our arrival, so i complained to head office and we were soon up graded to a much nicer room. :T
On a few occasions we've been up graded as we've checked in just becouse we had got there at beginning of check in and not all of the higher grade rooms or caravans had been taken.

Last year they operated a "clearing" site for spaces still available in the system after all applications had been processed. It covered any date and location still available not just the ones you had put down on your form. This means that if you're not successful with your original combinations of dates/locations you should get a second bite at the cherry.

Hopefully they will do the same again this time.

I've been on about 14 Sun holidays. I've found some of them to be counted as some of the best holidays of my life and some of them to be counted as the worst. I think it's just the luck of the draw.

Sun holidays are good because in a way everyone wins:
People can have a cheap holiday who perhaps werent able to afford one any other way,
The holiday camps get people using their facilities during the slower months of the year,
The Sun get more people buying their newspapers.
