Having trawled the internet on dialup for several days now it seems rather difficult to get a straightforward broadband deal that does NOT include phone calls, DVD rentals and a whole host of other stuff lumped in that I would be paying for but not want.
My ideal package would be unlimited downloads on 1mg (or 2mg if poss) for under £20 per month.
Local rate calls for support/customer service NOT just email support.
Monthly contract with no penalties to move away if not happy.
Simple!
But I have yet to find such a beast.

The best I can advise is checkout the following:
ADSL Guide Forums
ISP Review
For a fiver more per month:
Zen Broadband is the true top broadband (adsl) provider with unmetered usage and local rate UK based support.
For your price you'll get 512Kbs with them.
The Phone Co-op (My chosen adsl provider) is £25.99 with unmetered usage and UK based local rate phone support.
Hope this helpsProudly Banking & Saving With:

I have looked at Zen but am put off by their high prices. For approx £25 per month I'd be getting half the speed I'm used to and for this money I could possibly even get 2mg elsewhere. In fact for another 4.99 I could get 2mg from Zen.
I've not ruled out looking at 512kbs if there's a special offer on to double the speed - but alas I've not found one yet.
I have also looked at the ADSL Guide and another site called ISP Review and decided that picking an ISP from other people's recommendations is like trying to choose a car or anything else. All ISPs will have some customers who are delighted and others who hate them.
Finally I went to uSwitch - which previously, along wth other price comparers in relation to gas/electric gives a wide array of results and all the comparers vary with the same results!0 -
Telewest Blueyonder.... I have only the Broadband at £17.99 a month with no capping
its £14.99 a month witha phone package I believe they have local phone support
or free if you have a phone with them.
You will have to be in a Telewest cabled area though.0 -
Looks like I'm out of the telewest area.
Is anyone with Tesco broadband? As I'm on a mission to collect clubcard points this has got to be worth me considering.0 -

A mate of mine is and hes had no problems to talk of... :beer:0 -
Looking at Tesco further it seems you can get 1mg unlimited broadband for £17.99
Customer support is on an 0845 local rate number 7 days a wekk 0800 - midnight but techie support is on an 09 number (which i can't dial from my phone due to having it barred following the dialler scams) techie support is 50p per min.
Unless I've missed it - I cannot see if it is monthly or annual contract.0 -
May be going off at a tangent here, but I'd recommend the Tesco visa card (which we originally took out as a 0% stoozing thing) as you get Clubcard points with every purchase. They can mount up really quickly.0

Having got out from Metronet just as the s hit the fan I went to Newnet. http://www.newnet.co.uk/broadband/home_u.php
So far they have been reliable, fast (512-2meg the same price subject to your line) very helpful when joining, 4 page setup sheet to help you. Accounts answered within 24 hours by e-mail.
Not the cheapest but pretty good so far. Lots of ex-metronets are going there.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
