I've ordered all four seasons from https://www.dvdcrave.com for £34.60 delivered (from Australia).

They're customs-friendly so shouldn't be any need to worry about getting stung for a Royal Mail handling charge (although please don't blame me if you do).

I've used DVD Crave quite a few times over the past two years and they've been great each time. Delivery from Australia usually takes about a week in my experience, although at this time of year I'd expect things to take longer.

It's also worth noting that you must search for 'Wire' on the site to find these box sets (they should show up in page two of the results). Search for 'The Wire' and you'll get no results.

Season two is out of stock but they'll still take your order for it so I'm assuming they're getting more stock - soon I hope but I'm in no rush.

Thanks to a poster at AV Forums for this tip.

The Wire is great ... really addictive TV ... well worth the money. We watched series 1 in 2 (very long) nights! If you want to know what The Wire is about, read the series summaries at thewiredvd.co.uk, there are also youtube clips and info on the main characters. There seems to be more info on this site than Amazon.
The BangCD discs are region 2 & 4 and imported from Singapore if that makes any difference to you.

Anyone found Series 5 cheap yet? Amazon etc seem to be about 28 quid.

  • FYI, if you have cable or satellite TV you can even save yourself at least 9.99 because Channell FX are starting a re-run of series 1 of "The Wire" on 23 February (that's according to my account at www.mydigiguide.com).

I'm hoping this will be the start of a run of all the series back-to-back, like More 4 are currently doing with "The West Wing". Fingers crossed.

[By the way, fans of decent US drama may be interested in "Generation Kill", coming soon on FX - apparently a top-rated show about the Iraq conflict. Got rave reviews in The Times or Sunday Times this week. See http://www.fxuk.com ]
  • For anyone who doesn't know The Wire you are in for a treat! At this price just buy them all and see why all the cirtics call this the greatest ever television drama series.

Mine was originally due for dispatch 29th December, then it was amended to 5th January .... so far it is still not showing as having been dispatched. With ericthelobster saying FX are showing it next month, I'm starting to get tempted to cancel my order.

and check your local sainburys for season 5, its £2.99. If its says £25, do a self scan to see if its £2.99. I fear most will be gone now.
  • Hello all,

Can anyone who bought The Wire seasons from DVDCrave confirm if they are indeed the dual-coded Region 2 / 4 editions (like the seasons on BangCD) as they only say they're Region 4 on the DVDCrave website for each of them.

    Many thanks in advance
