Faster payments in and out, and 5.1% interest! (If you applied before 8 Jan). I personally love my tesco account.
That's all well and good, but those of us who have recently applied are probably wondering if it is still going to worth having this account when we eventually get through the application process.

And it would be interesting to know when the 12 months' bonus rate runs from in their eyes. Date of application, date of opening (whatever their definition of that might be), or some date plucked out of the air perhaps. Can't see a reference to this in the T&Cs, but may have missed it.

I suspect they'll treat it as the date when the deposit cheque is credited to the account (£1 in my case), i.e. the account will then be 'open'. Not an unreasonable line to take in normal circumstances, but getting this one fully up and running seems anything but normal, and it will be infuriating if it then takes an age before any more funds can be sent to the account because of other hoops still to be jumped through or stuff not arriving. I'm a patient soul on the whole, but that would be galling... and I wasn't going to send any more than £1 to kick off with, after reading others' experiences!

Be patient guys, I know it's a hassle to set up the account, and some of the opening procedures defy logic, but really it's a great account!

Have you tried to get through to them on the phone? I managed this afternoon (after trying many times in breaks at work, and giving up after half an hour), and when i asked the best time to get through, was told "8am when we've just opened"

The small glossy interest rate flyer that came when the account was opened says "your bonus will be calculated on the daily cleared funds held in your account for the first 12 months your account is open".

When you log on and click on account details it shows something like "date account opened". So it must be 12 months from then.

Are we both being overly optimistic in thinking this account will still be competitive by the anniversary :D

I've had mine for 7 of the 12 months and so far it is the best account around. It started off at 6.25%, then 6% and now 5.1%. I'm very happy.
  • This account has to be one of the worst. Applied on the 19th of nov, recieved a letter one week letter with all details (sort code, account no) leading to my account. Fine passed the first hurdle, tried to log in and i needed a reg code, ok i'll wait a little longer and nothing came after one week.

Phoned the customer advisor and said that they have been busy but she will send one out. Another week went by got the letter, but stlll couldn't log in. Phoned again...Oh! we never recieved a signature we'll send another letter to sign and date. A month and a half later account opened.

Had to wait another 3 weeks to request a direct debit from my current account...sign date send away...wait 14 days....one month has passed and can't take or put any funds into my tesco account because they can't find the paper work? Good thing i only put £1 in but i'll want it back.

Seem to remember it was increased for a short spell in October(?) to 6.5% (between your 6.25% and 6% figures above).

Actually you may be correct. It rings a very vague bell.

Saw that, but it didn't say when 'open' was...

Now you're just being swanky with your open account 'n login 'n all :D

I'd be quite glad if it was even open by the anniversary...

It’s a great account, with a fantastic interest rate, and faster payments (to the full 10K) and the Tesco clubcard points and the ability to set up different payees but with the security that the card reader provides.

    Marvellous. Absolutely marvellous.

And the long opening process doesn't seem too bad now.

Right logging off and hiding for a few days while I get savaged for this post. Would suggest Jem16 and Tom’s Mum do the same. :D
