How can I explain further, there is NO PAPER TROUBLESHOOTING MANAUL, there is a SUPPORT DISC which I was totally flabbergasted and amazed to find wouldnt work due to the computer not working, minor inconvenience I know, there is a paper "setting up your computer" guide, there is a "product information" guide, there is also a warranty and service centre contact list. There is no paper troubleshooting guide.
How pray tell does one ask the geeks, or access Google or ask for free on this forum from a telephone call box, I couldnt wait for the next day as I needed to work on documents for work the next day?
Clearly it was my fault that I hadnt prepared myself by buying a second computer in readiness for the first one to crash and not be able to access the online documents. I am now preparing a book full of questions of what to do in readiness for the next crash, and I shall download and print the intire manual, oh to be so blessed as some with hindsight.
Wish I hadnt asked.
Mods please delete:rolleyes:
Warranty doesn't cover the software.
Windows is known to be flaky - something you just have to live with, also 3rd party software could be flaky too.
That doesn't mean it's not an hardware issue cause software to play up.
If you bought a JVC DVD player and the DVD you bought had errors on it, would you complain to JVC under warranty about faulty DVD - this is the same as complaining about a PC because of some software. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Will that not mean by using Acronis it will reinstall the os Vista with the problems it has over the top of the fresh install ? would I be better just doing a restore back to around a week ago when there were no problems, could it be as simple as that? I think I know the answer...0

Bex the thing is I bought everything from Dell, hardware and software and for them to just say its a software problem cough up, how do they know it isnt a hardware problem, why assume it must be software and they have no ownership of a software problem causing the os not to work, they only sell the software, but surely then they have some ownership as they profit from selling it.
I wouldnt complain to them if my photoshop or dreamweaver didnt work? so dont understand your point.0 -

Or was it broken?0 -

What a pity there aren't any other operating systems. If you bought a JVC DVD player and the DVD you bought had errors on it, would you complain to JVC under warranty about faulty DVD - this is the same as complaining about a PC because of some software.
If they supplied the DVD, then yes, I would.0 -
Did you sell or dispose of the older XP machine?
Or was it broken?
Probably has issues with Windows! It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... I get this all the time, mainly due to user error >95% of the time
The ISP I work for send me out as a last resort, rather than loosing a customer, for this they pay me quite well
To give you an example; today I had a service fault where the customer couldn't gain internet connection. Customer was totally peed off with the ISP, wants to cancel etc.
The problem; customer has installed NIS 2008 and had blocked IE from internet access
I get these every day, no filters, router unplugged, I could go on.
Point of this post is that most people will blame the hardware/software when usually it is user error
Cheers

Fair comment, but what I was told by Dell was this fault is caused by an electricity spike ? the computer was switched off all day and is on a four way surge protector, nothing in the house went off or was effected and I dont beleive it was a spike.
I still have my old machine with windows XP ? but I removed the hard drive, it was working ok, just a few years old and was a bit slow, hence buying the Dell system, which I now regret and should have bought it from a local supplier, but then they tend to go out of business every few years.0 -

I was having ongoing problems with TalkTalk connection unavailability and drop outs and on one occasion I was ready to hit the roof with them until I noticed that the modem cable has come adrift from the socket.:o
Oops.:o
In my own defence it was usually their fault that I couldn’t get a connection.:D0 -
How about the guy who broke his computer's cup holder off?
You know, the one that slides out of the front when you press a little button under it.0
