da_genious wrote:The best option then would be to go for their £17.99 option for a 2Meg unlimited connection, UK Online are great for speed but they don't cover much of the country, my area doesn't have it either. You can get wireless routers starting from £30.00 going to hundreds......you can get a decent one for abt £35.00......Netgear and Belkin seem to be good makes.....as I have tried and tested both for home and for work....!!
Once your ADSL is active you can always set up the wireless yourself...!!
Whose 2mb. I also thought that some isp provide a router? Also is there a connection fee? Does anyone know what you have to say to dell to get the discount on stuff you have allready ordered???

Sorry I should have been more precise, I meant to get the 2 meg connection from Tiscali, which is £17.99 unlimited, comes with free modem and connection.
HTHIt takes 43 muscles to frown.........17 muscles to smile.......but only ONE CLICK to say THANKS..!!0 -

They were featured on Watchdog, I think it was poor service & poor customer service. You could check out the Watchdog archives to see what the problems were & if they have been rectified.
http://www.ispreview.co.uk/broadband/xdsl.shtml is a good place to look for broadband prices, also reviews.0 -
Cant recommend Plus Net highly enough after 4 years with them. Star broadband providers.
PM for details and if you would like a referral (gets us both something I believe).0 -
Thanks to the OP.
It took a while to remove all the McAfee stuff which is a trial as the uninstaller did not work until I ran MSConfig and turned of the McAfee virus scan there, and rebooted. Up and running with AVG Free.
Also remove all the AOL, Tiscalli and other junk software loaded onto the laptop, Dell must get paid to put this on the PC!
In total I had to uninstall quite a lot of promotional stuff and junk I did not want.
Happy with the laptop, I changed the background from the default DELL in stone picture to no background in Control Panel, Display, Desktop and in Control Panel, Performance I set it to fast performance no fancy graphics.
Finally under power I changed it to hibernate rather than standby on lid close and after 20 minutes. Standby uses a lot of power, hibernate does not.
Good laptop for the price. Thanks to OP!Seth.0 -

HTH
I would not recommend anybody to go with Tiscali, they are the pits, just took me 18mths go get away from them, they wouldn't issue MAC Codes, their download speeds are terrible, especially at night between 5pm-1am, ignore emails, customer service is beyond belief, all the way in India, at full price for phonecalls.
Just go here and compare http://www.adslguide.org.uk/isps/compare.asp
Sometimes you buy cheap you get cheap, and these certaintly are0 -
