  • get ram from Crucial.com/uk

    use the memory configurator
that selects the ram for your laptop/PC

fit it yourself, and if it doesnt work, send it back within 30days to crucial and they will give you a full refund.( also you can get the postage back as well if it doesnt work)

dont forget to go through quidco for 7% back , and visit hotukdeals for a code for 4% off

  • Not got broadband at the moment so looking for the best/cheapest. I obviously then need a modem and router where will i get the best deal from? I have heard that you can get them all from the broadband provider??

    Regards Neil

    Hi Neil,

Tiscali are doing a great deal at the moment with a 1meg unlimited connection for £14.99 and a 2Meg unlimited with free anytime phonecalls for £19.99, might be worth a shot, maybe someone else might have any cheaper/faster recommendations?

    Try here...

    Good luck!!

Ordered mine Saturday around 3pm - got PDF and UPS reference (left Irelend this PM!)

Re broadband would recommend ukonline. 1Mb unlimited £9.99 a month if your local exchange has their equipment and 2Mb is £14.99, and faster... (2mb and 8mb have free connection at the moment, 1Mb doesn't though they rotate the offers every so often - I got 1Mb with free connection).

...if you want to use them, I'd appreciate you letting me know via a PM and I can "recommend" you by giving you my email address. We then both get one month free! :j

Service is good too! (it works, as you can tell!)

Pity that the upgrades are expensive like that - the area where my old lappy falls down is handling & storing multimedia things like pictures and sound, hence my desire for more memory & disk.

But at under £300 see above - looks a good deal anyway.

You should be able to get a RAM upgrade for peanuts in comparison, and hard discs are cheap too IF you need it in future, though I'd recommend burning stuff off rather than leaving it on the HDD - which therefore means you shouldn't need all that space!

  • Looking for a router for wireless and i allready get free calls through talk talk so don't need the phone calls. How much are the routers? Do you have to pay a connection for broadband? I looked into ukonline and i'm not on an exchange so its cheaper elewhere. Has anyone had any experience with ringing dell to get a discount?

    Thanks Neil

As I have not yet had confirmation and will need to call in any event, I am interested in the possibility of a discount. Is there a particular line to push given how cheap this laptop is to start with. Perhaps one should just say that I read that they are offering other people a discount not to cancel the order and are they offering me one ?
  • I've just rung dell to try to see if they would match the deal offered on saturday and they weren't even interested in trying to get close. They just said our best price is 399. Still kicking myself about this one- have set my homepage to the ukdeals dell webpage to remind me to look every day. Suppose I could say I ordered on saturday but still have had no confirmation- what is going on??

The best option then would be to go for their £17.99 option for a 2Meg unlimited connection, UK Online are great for speed but they don't cover much of the country, my area doesn't have it either. You can get wireless routers starting from £30.00 going to hundreds......you can get a decent one for abt £35.00......Netgear and Belkin seem to be good makes.....as I have tried and tested both for home and for work....!!
Once your ADSL is active you can always set up the wireless yourself...!!
